New Hope Academy 10.07.2021

The extraordinary talent of New Hope Academy’s students was featured at the annual art show on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. Art produced throughout the year by students from both the Yardley and Doylestown campuses was proudly displayed for all to enjoy. Paintings, sketches, sculpture, graphic design, and photography were just some of the mediums exhibited. The Art Show was not just a visual extravaganza; it was also an auction. It gave the artists’ parents and guardians the opportunity to appreciate, admire, and even acquire their child’s masterpieces. NHA’s art department eagerly greeted the parents and explained the artistic process. Art has always been a vital part of the NHA curriculum and it was clear to see the positive influence it has on the lives of our talented students.

On Wednesday, May 19, students from creative writing classes at the Doylestown and Yardley campuses had the opportunity to speak via Zoom with New York Times #1 best-selling author and Yardley/Doylestown-area native Racheal Lippincott. Rachael is a published author of three books: Five Feet Apart (now a major motion picture); All This Time; and The Lucky List (to be released on June 1st). Rachael discussed her background, her own writing process, and becoming a published author. Students were then able to ask questions and share their own story ideas. It was truly inspirational and was a wonderful opportunity to speak to a successful and accomplished writer!

On Friday, May 14, New Hope Academy seniors visited Six Flags Great Adventure for a special senior trip. After gathering at the Yardley campus, the seniors and staff boarded a Starr bus and headed over to Jackson, New Jersey, where the park awaited them. If the weather was any indicator, it was going to be a picture-perfect day! Upon entry around 11am, some trip-goers headed over to roller coasters, where they first rode Batman: The Ride and then the spectacular Nitro. Others... headed towards the coaster Harley Quinn, the Buccaneer pirate ship, and the indoor-pitch black Skull Mountain. Some checked out the stand-up coaster Green Lantern and the house of illusions known as Houdini’s Great Escape. 1pm was the first meet-up, where everyone checked in with staff and got lunch, thanks to the meal ticket that was provided. Visitors were able to get a meal, a refillable drink cup, and a snack. Many got chicken fingers and fries, while some got burgers and onion rings. Almost every senior got Dipping Dots ice cream! After refueling, the seniors once again descended on the park. Some rode Kingda Ka, the tallest roller coaster in the country, where riders are launched from 0 to 128 mph and ascend 90 degrees up a 45-story tower. Others rode Superman, on which riders fly like the Man of Steel; the 7-looped Bizarro; and the wooden coaster El Toro. Some seniors even rode the Slingshot, which shoots its riders 220 feet into the sky! At 5pm, it was time to head back to the school. Students and staff boarded the bus for a quiet ride home. After a year of uncertainty, restrictions, and distance, it was great to come together and have some much deserved fun! See more

Due to the considerable impact of Sunday's winter storm, concerns about tonight's cold temperatures, the potential for icing, and transportations issues with several school districts closing or operating on a delayed schedule, New Hope Academy will be operating on a fully remote platform on Monday February 8th 2021. Teachers will post assignments to their google classroom for each of their scheduled classes. School will resume in person on Tuesday February 9th, and as always, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

The boys and ghouls of New Hope Academy celebrated Halloween on Friday, October 30, 2020. Students and staff marked the holiday by dressing up in a wide range of costumes - there were anime characters, scarecrows, Fat Albert and his buddy Dumb Donald - even the Mona Lisa made an appearance! Each campus had their own celebration, complete with candy and costume awards. Some of the student awards included Scariest, Best Homemade, Best Duo, and Funniest. Even the teachers shared in the fun. A group of teachers from Doylestown dressed in 80’s-themed garb and a group of teachers from Yardley dressed as ninjas. It was a frightfully enjoyable day for all!

New Hope Academy 25.09.2020

New Hope Academy was incredibly honored to host not just one but six 20th Commencement Ceremonies on June 26, 2020. It was a ceremony that was unparalleled and unprecedented, but it was one of the proudest days in the history of the school. After experiencing a pandemic that brought isolation, anxiety, and a virtual fourth quarter, the Class of 2020 finally received their high school diplomas. Creativity and flexibility were essential when planning for this unusual day but NH...A was up for the task. In an effort to adhere to health guidelines, graduates were separated into six groups and each group was assigned to a different time throughout the day. They were permitted to bring three family members and received a special hand-made mask that read NHA Class of 2020. Upon their arrival to the Yardley campus, students and their families were greeted by an enthusiastic group of teachers serving as the NHA Honor Guard, who cheered their arrivals and applauded their efforts. Seniors then had their official portraits taken and had the opportunity to walk through the school and admire their artwork that was on display. A red carpet greeted them and guided them to their seats in front of the podium and a special Gift Tree, which was decorated with pictures of the graduating seniors, all while the NHA music department played the traditional Pomp and Circumstance. NHA Head of School Kathy Gana and senior administrators welcomed the graduates and their families and the ceremony began with a reading of New Hope School of Dreams, NHA’s official alma mater poem. After the distribution of trophies for Highest Achievement, awards for Most Improved, and personalized speeches from various staff members, the valedictorians and salutatorians delivered their speeches. After the pinnacle moment of the presentation of the diplomas, the Class of 2020 proceeded out of the room to Gonna Fly Now (Theme from "Rocky"), gathered up special gift bags, and exited the building, where they were met by thunderous applause, smiling faces, and bright futures.

New Hope Academy 02.09.2020

As New Hope Academy stands firmly to the idea of inclusivity, there is a civil movement that we must address. America was founded on the ideals of integration and cultural diffusion. Americans are hurt and in pain because of the mis-treatment of our fellow African-Americans. We are aware that our system is broken, and it must be fixed. We have to break the chains of bondage and raise our voices in unity that no race is superior to the other. It is imperative that we educate... ourselves and our children. As we continue to move forward in these difficult times, we must find a way to love one another, include one another, and see one another as part of the same human race. NHA prides itself on our school’s motto, ‘Head and Heart Before the Brain’. Perhaps, we must accept racial equality within our heads and hearts before we can accept it within our brains. This is the ultimate struggle, and it will be won on the field of the heart. It is our hearts that unlock our voices to shout out, black lives matter. Someday we will shout, all lives matter. Every person on this earth is here for a direct purpose, and we have no right to disrespect or disregard one another simply because of skin color. NHA is the great school it is, not only because of our academic success, but also because of the fact that we, as educators at New Hope Academy, made a choice to love each other and love each child. We don't have to always like each other, but we do have to always love each other. So the solution to many of the problems with achieving racial equality begins with love for ourselves and others. If we choose love, then we choose life. Love is the ultimate goal. Kathy Rosso-Gana Founder & Head of School, New Hope Academy & Ebony Crosdale English Teacher, New Hope Academy

To honor the graduating class of 2020, New Hope Academy provided each senior a sign commemorating their major accomplishment. Over the course of a weekend, NHA staff members visited each senior’s house and personally hand-delivered their signs, which could proudly be displayed in the yard. It was difficult to not hug the students, but social distancing was strictly enforced! NHA is immensely proud of all of our students. We admire the resiliency they’ve shown during this challenging time and applaud their remarkable achievements! Parents: If you would like to share a photo of your student and their sign, please email one over to [email protected] and we will add it to this post!
