On May 1, 1916, the anthracite mineworkers of Pennsylvania finally earned the 8-hour workday. They had been striving unsuccessfully for that goal for decades.

The properties are located in the 100 square of E. Ridge St., 100 square of E. Patterson St., and the 100 square of W. Bertsch St. The tenants of the homes were notified that the homes will be sold and they would be given first preference. See more

As the mines of the anthracite coal fields of Eastern Pennsylvania began to mechanize in the late 1920s, miners and those close to the industry noted the disappearance of one of the Coal Region’s most stubborn, but beloved creatures: the mine mule.

No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum in Lansford, Pennsylvania will open for the 2021 visitor season starting at the beginning of April. We will be offering underground guided mine tours Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in April, and Wednesdays through Sundays starting in May moving forward. Mine tours are offered each day at 11, 12, 1, 2 and 3. The mining museum on the surface is open 10 to 4 each day.
