Here's your Happy Ev-FUR After/#DogMomDay combo post! Accountant Stephanie Schneider adopted Ryker, a Coonhound mix, in March of 2019 after the pup and our fearless pilots braved an ice storm to make it to Pittsburgh! Ryker may only be nearing 2 and half years old, but he’s already found a new leash on life in the world of competition and athleticism. Despite arriving in the middle of tax seasona 24/7 affair for dutiful accountants like StephanieRyker just had to be ...hers after her friend Sue Krul at Animal Care and Welfare, Inc sent her a picture of Ryker’s litter of 10! At 10 weeks, Ryker spent a relaxing two weeks at Paws Here Awhile Pet Resort while she tended to her work. As soon as she wrapped up tax season, the pup came home to Stephanie’s digs and the rest is history! Ryker has settled right in to his mama’s active life. The two are inseparable; Ryker runs alongside her on bike rides, serves as First Mate on kayak trips, and even rides the waves on a friend's stand up paddle board! The ambitious pup competes in nose work also known as scent finding and is training for his first professional competition! Ryker also reached a top speed of 25.01 MPH in the AKC FastCAT 100 yard lure chase competition! Ryker is a decorated dog, earning a Canine Good Citizen award along with 2 trick dog titles - novice and intermediate. Ryker is a member of the Steel City Disc Dogs frisbee League, and he’s even a registered therapy dog! Is there something this pup hasn’t done! (Seriously, we looked and we couldn’t find anything) While energy is Ryker’s middle name, Stephanie reports that he’s a big cuddler at heart. He joined rescue cats Moyra and Jester seamlessly and if a pod could fit three peas they would be it. Happy #DogMomDay!

April is National Stress Awareness Month and let’s face it, we all need healthy companionship. The lifestyle of pet ownership provides those perks! Both the exercise and routine required to care for pets keeps owners active, organized, and even less lonely! Pet ownership can also aid in the transition to older adulthood. According to one study, pet owners 65+ make 30% fewer visits to their doctors than those without pets. Heart attack patients with pets also often reporte...dly survive longer than those without them! We have a lot to thank our pets for this stress awareness month! Stress relief and pets are a two-way street, though; animals relieve stress by going on walks as well, so make sure to step out with them today! It truly does take a village and the outpouring of support we have received in 2020 has been nothing less than spectacular. In order to get the food that Maggie's Farm Rum and PAART donated for today’s people and pets food distribution drive with 412 Food Rescue at Heinz Field we put out the word that we needed help. The amazing folks at McGann and Chester, LLC. stepped up and sent a flatbed truck over to airport just now and loaded up all 20,000 pounds and drove it for us to Heinz Field. It’s acts like this that prove that Pittsburghers really are incredible people who help each other and are always willing to go the extra mile to give back to the community. Thank you McGann and Chester. A lot of four legged friends will have a better holiday because of your help!

So far in 2020, PAART has donated 180,000 pounds of pet food, equivalent to 720,000 meals. Here's how this Wednesday's People and Pets food distro event came together for us: Tim Russell of local distillery, Maggie's Farm Rum wanted to donate 10,000 lbs of pet food and his generosity inspired us to MATCH the donation. That's enough dog and cat food for 80K meals! We're also thrilled to team up again with 412 Food Rescue for this event. Read more about it in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: https://bit.ly/3h1uxuD.

A big thank you goes out to volunteer father and son team, Mark J Britton and Alex Britton who led #nodogleftbehind's most recent ground mission to Mayberry 4 Paws in North Carolina. Mark and Alex helped rescue 11 pups, transporting them to the McKean County Spca. and the Action For Animals Humane Society in Western Pa. so they can have a second chance! Whether by or , our rescue missions are not possible without the support of volunteers and, of course, donations. Please consider one of the various ways to contribute so our Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team can continue our efforts!

The #NoDogLeftBehind family reaches far and wide - but we have a special update about an original family member! PAART pilot Jonathan Plesset's mother-in-law and father-in-law shared photos of their newly-adopted pup, Minka Roberto Kuniansky. Nancy and Max Kuniansky adopted him as a result of a recent #NoDogLeftBehind PAART mission we completed with the Adopt a Sato group. Minka was a rescued Sato dog from Puerto Rico. Jonathan's in-laws recently lost their dog T.O. and... adopted Minka so their other dog Pippa wouldn't be too sad. So far Minka (who is named after Pittsburgh Steelers Safety Minka Fitzpatrick) is a lovable, well-adjusted puppy who Nancy and Max instantly fell in love with. The Kunianskys said they had an amazing experience with Pam Bacco from Adopt-a-Sato and want to share how amazing Pam was during their pet adoption process. We're thrilled to welcome Minka into the family and he will always have an extra special place in our hearts since he was a dog that PAART helped!
