NOLAN’S LUMBER CO INC 1001 SCOTT STREET, KULPMONT, PA 17834 It is now time for Jim and Bob to announce to the public the closing of our lumber business, on Tuesday November 22, 2016. Our decision is based on reasons other than health. My brother and I would like to thank our deceased parents for the faith they had in their sons,... Bob age 23 and Jim age 17, at the time the business was started in 1972. They didn’t hesitate to mortgage their home to start the business at the time that Mount Carmel had 4 active lumberyards and Shamokin had 5. Our success and longevity were only made possible by the hard work, dedication, and honesty of 16 people that worked with us over the past 44 years. None of this would have been possible without customers and a majority of them who became friends for life. We originally sold building supplies to people in our parents age bracket for the first 15 years of business. Then we sold material to people in our same age bracket, and more recently for the last 10 years to their children, who we could share stories about their grandparents. We tried to help the community as best we could but our fondest memory has always been the sponsorship of the girls softball teams. We would like to thank the girls that participated, their families, the coaches and assistant coaches, and anyone that contributed to the program. It is with a feeling of sadness that the sponsorship of the team will end this year. We are going to try to find a buyer for our business, we know there is a need for a retail lumber company in the Kulpmont, Mount Carmel, and Shamokin area. Thank you, Jim & Bob Nolan See more
