Vera Mae Sligh (Shear) of Beaver, PA has gone home to glory on Friday, June 11, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Nathaniel H. Shear and Cornelia (Thompson) Thorn, and stepfather Willie F. Thorn, Sr. Vera was preceded in death by her late husband: Benjamin F. Sligh, Jr.; daughter: Joy A. Sligh; brothers: John Shear, Nathaniel Shear, Julius C. Thorn, and Willie F. Thorn, Jr.; sisters: Willie Mae Thorn, Anna L. Scott, and Rosa Williams. She is survived by her children: Ben...jamin Sligh (Janet) Midland, PA; Linda Sue Collins Rochester, PA; Lori Parrish (Cornell) Rome, NY; and Ordin Sligh New Brighton, PA. Brothers: Handy Thorn and Aaron Thorn Wintersville, OH and James Thorn Daytona Beach, FL. Sisters: Barbara Turner-Hymes Daytona Beach, FL; Sally Whitfield Elyria, OH; Sandi Rue (Paul) Steubenville, OH. She loved and adored her 16 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. Michael J. Pappy Paplomatas, 62, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Beaver, Pa., passed away, unexpectedly, playing golf, a game he loved, on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. He was born on July 16, 1958, in Beaver, Pa. and was a 1976 graduate of Beaver Area High School. Michael joined the United States Coast Guard in 1976 and was honorably discharged in 1980. After his military service he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Robert Morris University. Michael was employed by VACO Risk Manag...ement. Michael was preceded in death by his father, James M. Paplomatas. He is survived by his mother, Georgene Jean Paplomatas, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; son, Troy Paplomatas and his wife, Morgan, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Troy’s mother, Angela Blizzard Paplomatas; grandson, Coleman James; sister, Lori Snedeker, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother, Jamie Paplomatas and his wife, Jennifer, of Beaver, Pa.; and four nieces and nephews. Gail Patricia Lytle, 73 of Chippewa, formerly of Beaver went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, June 11, 2021 at her home with her family at her side. Born August 4, 1947 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert C. and Catherine Mercedes Byrne Martin. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, Beaver and was very involved in Community Bible Study for 24 years, having served in several leadership roles. Gail was also involved with M.O.P.S. ...for approximately 10 years server as Mentor Mom. Gail was a graduate of CCBC with an Associate Degree in Information Science earning the Dr. Anthony Debons, CIS/Telecommunications Excellence Award where she was employed and retired from the CCBC Computer Department. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 53 years, William David Lytle, Sr., 2 daughters, Mary Catherine (Scott) Higby, Rena’ Lynn (John) Toomey, and a son, William David, Jr. (Misty) Lytle. She cherished her grandchildren, S. Vincent Higby, Jr., Joshua D. Higby, Abigail F. Higby, Maryna G. Lytle, Noah D. Lytle, Daniel N. Lytle, Charlotte F. Toomey and Jonathan Toomey. Dorothy Hodnick Dapollonio (Trbovich) passed to her eternal life on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at her home with loving family by her side. Born December 7, 1929 in Midland, the youngest child to Mike and Marta Trbovich and sister to Stevo, Rudy and Natalie. She married her husband Adam Hodnick on October 20, 1951. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1978 after 27 years of marriage.... Dorothy is survived by loving daughters Paula and her husband Sam Walter (Rochester) and Donna and her husband Michael Brewer (Arlington, Texas) Grandson Luke Brewer and his wife Lauren (Arlington, Texas) and granddaughters Anne Walter Kampf with her husband Bill and great grandsons Adam and Matthew (Canonsburg); Emily Brewer Alardin with her husband Pete and great granddaughters Natalia and Olivia (Arlington, Texas); Elizabeth Walter Wetzel with her husband Christian and great granddaughter Charlotte (Beaver). She was preceded in death by her great grandson Pedro Alardin IV in 2009. Dara, as he affectionately called her, is survived by her husband of 18 years, Joseph Dapollonio along with his children Denise and David Runyon, Lisa Howard, Joe and Dawn D’Apollonio and Teresa and Paul Miller and numerous grandchildren. She is preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law Stevo and Gertrude Trbovich, Rudy and Ann Trbovich and sister Natalie (Nancy)Trbovich. Dorothy’s life revolved around her family. She was a wonderful cook and loved feeding family and friends. She loved to travel, spending time visiting family in Florida as well as many countries in Europe (especially family in Croatia). Dorothy also loved spending her winters in Florida; being at the beach was her happy place. She and Joe together were great travel partners. Dorothy loved her family. She was Teta or Aunt Dot to numerous nieces and nephews from both the Hodnick and Trbovich families. She will be sadly missed by friends whom she loved like family. Dorothy was proud of her Serbian heritage and was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Midland where she loved attending Divine Liturgy and gathering with her Strudel and Noodle friends. Louis A. Farnish, 71, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Swissvale, PA on September 30, 1949 and he most recently resided in Midland, PA. Lou was the son of the late Adam and Mary Farnish. A veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War, he served as a Medic. Following his military service, he attended Duquesne University and earned a degree in nursing. He worked for part of his career caring for mentally challenged adults and ...later, worked in assisted living facilities. He was an avid golfer with two credited hole-in-ones, loved to vacation at the beach in Ocean City, MD and served as a trustee at the Midland VFW. He is survived by his two daughters, Cassandra (Matt) Evanek and Jessica (Kavon) Rahimzadeh. He leaves behind his sister Marian (Sam) Vergona, brother Michael Farnish and his favorite nephew, Edward Vergona. He was preceded in death by his sister Anna Marie Farnish and by his long-time companion, Tina Newtz. Friends will be received Saturday, June 12, 2021, from 10 a.m. until time of Blessing Service at 12 p.m. in the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 600 Beaver Ave., Midland. Born December 4, 1943 in Rochester, he worked for over 50 years at the Eaton/Cutler Hammer Plant, formerly Westinghouse, Vanport Twp. In his spare time, Frank liked to fish, tinkering in the garage, a Mr. Fix-It for anything broken and loved to spend time with his family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and proud and caring grandfather and great-grandfather. Marie C. Heinle, 86, of Beaver passed away early Sunday morning, April 26, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Hospice House, Wexford, surrounded by her loving family. For two years prior, Marie resided at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph where she received excellent assistance and care. Born January 29, 1934, in Pittsburgh, she was the only child of the late Lt. Col. Ruben A. Cicone Jr., and Marie DeRosa Cicone. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Edward William Heinle, J...r., MD, her father, mother and stepmother, Mildred Hallam Cicone. Surviving are 2 daughters, Patricia Hoover, Esq., Beaver; Anne (Jeff) Ingros, Beaver; four sons, Dr. Edward W. (Patricia) Heinle III, Danville, PA; Dr. Michael S. (Dawn) Heinle, Cranberry, PA; Glenn H. (Debbie) Heinle, Hamilton, VA; Dr. Robert A. (Dr. Rachel) Heinle, Wilmington, DE; 25 cherished grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Raised in East Liberty and Highland Park, she graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Mt Mercy College (now Carlow University) in 1956 with a degree in Medical Technology. Marie then worked at Presbyterian Hospital until the birth of their first child. She and her young family spent 2 years in Germany when husband, Ed, was stationed there as an US Army doctor in the early 1960’s, and this may have led to her love of travel which included several trips to Italy, Ireland, Germany, Israel and Hawaii. Marie quickly settled into an active life of volunteerism when she and Ed moved to Beaver. Among the many groups in which she participated were The Marian Guild, Saints Peter and Paul PTG, Beaver Boosters, and Beaver County’s first hospice (founded by her husband). Marie was a devoted and active member of Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Beaver. She faithfully held the Wednesday noon hour of Eucharistic Adoration for over 30 years. Counseling at Lifeline, a crisis pregnancy center, was one of her passions where she assisted many women facing an unplanned pregnancy. Marie knew how the gift of children beautifully expanded one’s life. For her, there was no greater title on earth than Nana. She enjoyed spending a week or two nearly every summer for the last several decades at Chautauqua Institution and was a proud graduate of the nation’s oldest book club, Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle. Born on June 20, 1940, in Massena, N.Y., he was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce for 8 years, having served in the Vietnam War. Ron started his aviation career at Mohawk Airlines, continuing on to Alleghenies Airlines, and retired after over 30 years as a Maintenance Supervisor for U.S. Air. He was a lifetime member of the Beaver Valley Rifle and Gun club, wh...ere he enjoyed precision shooting. Ron was an extraordinary woodworker, having built multiple items for his own home, where he loved to spend time with his family. He is preceded in death by a niece, Jennifer Pattison; and a great-nephew, Michael Darroch. Helen V. Huska, 96, of Midland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, June 1, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley, Beaver. Born November 4, 1924 in Apollo, PA, she was a daughter of Michael and Zofia Chelko Demcuk. Helen was employed at Allegheny Ludlum Steel, West Leechburg, PA, Crucible Steel, Midland. The McGeehan Agency and William P. Laughlin Agency, both in Midland, and she held the position of Secretary of the Midland Chamber of Commerce..., where she acquired notable television, radio celebrities and Pittsburgh Steelers as guest speakers. She was never fired, just moved on with the economic changes always with a friendly parting of the ways. In her spare time, she volunteered at the former Friendship Ridge Nursing Home, and the Alliance for Consumer Protection, Beaver. In recent years, she enjoyed spending winters in Naples, FL, swimming and watching golfers from her lanai. Helen was a faithful member of St. Blaise Parish, Midland. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Huska, May 23, 1997; her son, Joseph Huska, January 29, 2018; and four brothers and five sisters, leaving her as the last remaining sibling. She will be greatly missed by her loving daughter, Christine Huska, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Born March 5, 1934 in Aliquippa, she was the youngest of eight children born to the late Anthony and Maria (Serafino) Chirico. She will be remembered mostly as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved when everyone was together. Josephine was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Vall...ey, St. Cecelia Church, Rochester. In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Rocco Cantanzarite; and siblings, Mary Zappia, Frank Chirico, Anthony Chirico, Angeline Schafer, Dominic Chirico, and Elizabeth Young. Phyllis Tench Thompson, 96, of Zelienople, formerly a lifelong resident of Beaver, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021, at Passavant Community, Zelienople. Born March 18, 1924, in Ford City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Beatrice Denny Tench, and was a faithful member of Park Presbyterian Church, Beaver. Phyllis was a devoted member of the Quota Club and Century Club of Beaver. During World War II she was employed by the propeller division of Curti...ss-Wright Corporation in Vanport. Later, she worked for the Townsend Company in New Brighton. After raising her children, she worked for the Beaver County Legal Journal for over 20 years. Phyllis is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Thompson, Redondo Beach, CA; a son Edward Denny Thompson, Springfield, MO; loving grandchildren Denise (Josh) Thompson Monson, Rachel Olejar, Michael (Emily Tremblay) Olejar, Alicia (Jon Cannady) Olejar; and a great-grandson, Zephaniah E. Joanne Elizabeth (Trimbur) Waida, 76, of Beaver Falls, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by her loving family after an extended illness. Born on May 12, 1944, in Butler, Joanne was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Acquavita) Trimbur. She graduated from Mars Area High School in 1962 and later received her Associate Degree in Business Administration at the Community College of Beaver County. Joanne w...orked at Heritage Valley Medical Center for many years, retiring as office manager of Corporate Education. More recently she was an administrative assistant at Seven Oaks Country Club. She was a member of Saint Monica Parish in Beaver Falls. She married Richard A. Waida, Sr., the love of her life in 1962, and they made a home together in Beaver Falls where they raised three children. Joanne was known by everyone for her love of cooking and baking, and she enjoyed traveling in the U.S., Italy, Canada, and Mexico. Joanne will be greatly missed by her husband of 58 years, daughters Theresa Steltzer and Patty Canton, son Richard A. (Irina) Waida, Jr., grandchildren Kaiti (Paul) Borelli, Maria Timonina, Benjamin Canton, Lukas Steltzer, and Zac Canton, and her great-grandchildren, Izzie and Max Borelli. In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas, David, William, and Leroy (Dale). She is survived by her brother Charles (Cathy) Trimbur, sisters Sharon (Tim) Duffy and Margaret (Russ) Cook, and many nieces and nephews. Lily Ann Thurnher was born on October 14, 2020 at 10:10 a.m. to loving parents, Brian and Brenda May Thurnher, Chippewa Township. She weighed 4 lbs, 15 oz and was 18 inches long. Although we knew Lily’s life here with us would be short, we were blessed deeply by the time we had with her while she danced in her Momma’s womb with her twin sister. Just 5 hours after coming into the world, Lily passed away peacefully in her mother’s arms at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Boardman, Ohi...o. During that fleeting time, she touched many lives and was loved by all who had the privilege to meet her. Robert J. Ress, 93, of Beaver, PA, passed away October 18, 2020 at Tapestry Senior Living in Moon Township. He was born in Germany on April 11, 1927 to the late Franz and Ella Ress. He immigrated to the United States in 1953 and his late wife, Irmgard Welte, followed in 1956. They were wed at St. Paul’s German Lutheran Church in Rochester, one week after Irmgard’s arrival in the United States. Ress had several siblings and one step-daughter, Melita Welte, who preceded hi...m and Irmgard in death. Ress had a career as a machinist and worked for Westinghouse Corporation in Beaver for over 20 years before his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed wood working, traveling the world, watching soccer, and reading. He loved and often spoke of German food, beer, and wine. Donna Lee (Witherow) Saylor, 84, of North Sewickley Township, passed away on October 15, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on July 19, 1936 in Beaver, a daughter of Eleanor (Davis) Bock and step daughter of Paul Bock. She was a 1954 graduate of Beaver Area High School and also of Garfield Business Institute. Donna was a 30 year member of New Brighton United Methodist Church and was active in the choi...r and the United Methodist Women. She was also a volunteer at Friendship Ridge for many years. She married the love of her life, Albert K. Saylor, Jr. in 1959 and he preceded her in death in 2008. They made a home together in Triangle, VA, where they raised two children. She worked at the Credit Union in Quantico, VA, where she worked her way up to Manager. They moved back to Beaver County in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her mother and step father, her sister Sally Schmidley in 1959, and her nephew, Paul Schmidley, in 2017. She is survived by her children, Albert K. III (Kimberly) Saylor, St John’s, FL, her daughter Cynthia (Robert) Sickelsmith, North Sewickley Twp., three grandchildren, Brittany (Taylor) Stein, Pittsburgh and Katherine and Jacob Sickelsmith, North Sewickley Twp., her sister Ruth Robinson, Negley, OH, her brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Leahan Bock, New Brighton, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, and she loved each and every one of them very much. In her spare time, she loved to golf, dance, bowl and travel, with Hawaii being her favorite destination. She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 64 years, Ronald B.
