Another time lapse view of a stream project we completed last summer.

First step in cleaning up yet another Acid Mine Drain (AMD) site. This lake was permanently drained so the seeps can be analyzed and a treatment system designed and built to remove any heavy metals that may be present and adjust the PH to acceptable levels.

Several years ago we removed the Emporium Water Company's "Ol' Steel Dam" behind the Cameron County fair grounds. I was very surprised how many people were upset that it was removed, some were unbelievably upset and were quite nasty. Not only was it mandated by DEP/Boat & fish commission, It was also very important to remove the dam as the stream and the aquatic life benefitted greatly from the removal of the dam. It took us less then 14 hrs from start to finish to remove th...e dam so the muddy water was not a huge crisis to the aquatic life. The day after we finished the removal you could barely even tell there was once a concrete dam there. The attached article is an excellent read as to why Pennsylvania is removing more dams then all the other states except California.
