Jimmie was first referred to our Southfield, MI center by a local nursing and rehabilitation facility in 2019 after undergoing right above-knee amputation that resulted from severe chemical burns. Jimmie was fit with his preparatory prosthesis in February 2020 and worked hard in therapy to walk again without any assistive devices. Knowing that his birthday was approaching, the Southfield team timed his visits perfectly and Jimmie received his new prosthesis and microprocess...or knee on his big day. Jimmie enjoys the ease of donning/doffing his new permanent prosthesis with the lanyard suspension system. His strength, mental grit and abilities to use his preparatory prosthesis independently also made him the perfect candidate to be fit with a microprocessor knee. He is hopeful to become even more independent and discharge home very soon. It's hard to see the smile under his mask, but he was thrilled! #feelgoodfriday #ProsthesisPossible #novacarepo

Ricky Dean is a Navy veteran and was referred to our Marion, IL center by the VA to receive a new below-knee prosthesis. To express his patriotism, his prosthesis has a flag pattern from Fred’s Legs laminated into the socket. Thanks to his new device, which features suction suspension and an Ossur VariFlex foot, Ricky is able to confidently and comfortably get back to work at his tree trimming business. #PatientSuccess #NovaCarePO #ProsthesisPossible

James Parkhill loves spending time outdoors, camping and hiking with his children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, walking had become increasingly difficult due to several areas of redness, skin breakdown and pain and he wasn’t able to enjoy his favorite hobbies. James began working with Ben Hammond, C.P., at our Toledo, OH, center and was provided with a socket replacement with Vacuum-assisted suction to keep him comfortable and confident in his device. It was our honor to help get you back to living, James. #PatientSuccess #NovaCarePO #ProsthesisPossible

Randy Knaub came to POSI’s Marlton, NJ center with an ill-fitting prosthesis. Due to his discomfort, he was struggling to make progress and get back to living his life until he began working with Kevin Towers, CPO. Kevin made Randy a new socket that was hand-casted and fabricated in-house. It has enabled Randy to attend physical therapy and work on his gait. Thanks to his better-fitting device, Randy can get back to his love of the outdoors. Recently, he completed a one-mile ...hike on the Appalachian Trail and looks forward to hunting season. Congratulations, Randy, on all of your success thus far and we look forward to watching you thrive! #PatientSuccess #POSI #NovaCarePO #ProsthesisPossible NovaCare Prosthetics & Orthotics and POSI are part of the Select Medical Outpatient Division family of brands.

Sometimes it takes a team of talented folks to get to the end goal. John received a prosthesis in another state before moving to Sheboygan, WI. He was having issues with poor socket fit and decided to contact our team. Brian Schmidt, CPO started working with John to make a new socket. Through conversation, Brian realized John also had a need for specialized diabetic footwear, so Andrea Pavlik, C.O., joined his case. Together, Brian and Andrea were able to fit John with a new socket and diabetic footwear that allow hi to do inclines and have greater stability. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #NovaCarePO #ProsthesisPossible #PatientSuccess

Today marks the beginning of a very special month for our sister brands within the Select Medical Outpatient Division family of brands. National Physical Therapy Month (NPTM) hosted by the American Physical Therapy Association, recognizes the important role physical therapists and physical therapist assistant play in the rehabilitation process. We are grateful for the collaborative effort we have with physical therapists to ensure our patients receive the care they need. #NPTM2020

Lamont became a patient at our POSI center in Marlton, NJ in order to get a running foot, secondary to his every day prosthesis. Yuke Kee Ishikawa, CPO, worked with the Challenged Athlete Foundation (CAF) and their grant program to help Lamont’s family apply for a grant that would provide him with the foot he needed; the Ossur Flex-Run Jr. with Nike Sole. CAF approved the grant and POSI delivered the perfect foot. Lamont loves to ride his bike, play basketball and recently t...ook up karate. Thanks to his new secondary foot, he’ll continue to participate in his favorite activities. Keep it up, Lamont! Hi-ya! #AboveandBeyond #ProsthesisPossible #PediatricPatient #PatientSuccess

Despite becoming an amputee 20 years ago, Mike is competitive in state softball and an active outdoorsman. Thanks to being somewhat retired, he’s able to spend more time competing and was named the 2020 Wisconsin State Champion for the National Field Archery Association. Marty Ryan, LCP, FAAOP, worked with Mike at our Fond du Lac center to provide a below-knee prosthesis with Condylar suspension and energy storing foot. This foot is specifically designed to provide high ener...gy return in activities like walking, running or agility driven exercise. This allows Mike to be confident and efficient in all of his adventures. We are proud of you, Mike, for your accomplishments! Please join us in congratulating him in the comments below. #PatientSuccess #ProsthesisPossible #NovaCarePO

Matthew came to our Marion, IL center to work with Tom Reece, C.P., COA, L.P., due to an ill-fitting socket from lost volume of his limb. Tom was able to provide Matthew with a new socket that has a Coyote air lock with the release button on the outside. This is an important feature for Matthew since he loves to ride and rebuild motorcycles and didn’t want the release button pressing against his bike. He also uses an Ossur ProFlex SC foot. Thanks to a properly fitting and custom socket, now Matthew can continue to ride like the wind! #PatientSuccess #ProsthesisPossible #NovaCarePO

After undergoing right below knee amputation in September 2016, Tony began working with Katy Schatzberg, CPO, MSOP, in our Southfield, MI center. Prior to his amputation, Tony was an avid bowler and wanted to get back to the sport and feeling like himself again. Katy fit Tony with a preparatory prosthesis in February 2017 and permanent prosthesis in May 2018. His permanent prosthesis has a pin suspension and supracondylar trim lines to improve his knee stability, allowing him... to feel stable and confident not only when walking, but also when bowling. He also uses a carbon fiber/dynamic response foot. After lots of hard work and physical therapy, Tony recently returned to bowling. We look forward to watching his confidence (and bowling scores) get higher and higher! #NovaCarePO #PatientSuccess #ProsthesisPossible

Tammy Hoffman has been a patient of our St. Paul, MN center for almost 30 years. She was born with a condition known as fibular hemimelia, where the fibula (or small, long bone of the lower leg) is either absent or just part of it exists. She has been an amputee for most of her life, but that hasn’t slowed her down. Tammy recently took a 39-mile canoe trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA). The BWCA is a 1,090,000-acre stretch that connects to Quetico Pro...vincial Park in Canada. She visited 20 lakes and 18 portages and had to carry her canoe and equipment across land to the next lake. The longest portage was equal to about two football fields of rocky and rugged terrain! Thanks to the prosthesis that our team provided her, she was able to stay comfortable, confident and independent throughout her adventure. We are so proud of you, Tammy! #NovaCarePO #PatientSuccess #ProsthesisPossible
