Oakman Farm 30.01.2021

Update: We currently have orders of all sizes available. Call, text, email, or FB message to place an order. We will deliver for FREE within 15 miles of the farm in New Brighton! Outside of 15 miles, we deliver for a nominal fee. We are taking orders now for our all natural farm-raised pork that is going to the butcher early February. We breed and raise our pigs on our farm, feeding a locally milled feed with no unnecessary additives like growth hormones or antibiotics. ...The end result is a delicious product that is healthier for you and your family at a reasonable price. Act fast if you want to order as we have been selling out quickly! Price is $4.50/lb by hanging weight and that includes ALL butchering and packaging fees as well as free delivery within 15 miles of the farm. Estimated total prices are as follows: Whole pig: ~$900 for 200 lb hanging weight Half pig: ~$450 for 100 lb hanging weight Quarter pig: ~$225 for 50 lb hanging weight On average, a whole pig will weigh in around 160-220lbs hanging weight. The actual hanging weight will be provided to me from the butcher at processing and that will be used to calculate your final price. You can expect to get about 60-70% of the hanging weight in your final products. It depends how you order your cuts. The photos on this post are the final products of a whole pig weighing 190lb, for example. Freezer space requirements are approximately 2 cubic feet for a quarter, 3-4 cubic feet for a half, and 5-6 cubic feet for a whole pig. Whole and half pig orders can fully customize the butchering of their order. Quarter orders can only select a sausage flavor. Please note that we will be using a different butcher in the future as our previous butcher stopped offering his services. This resulted in a price increase due to higher processing fees of the new butcher. The pork can be picked up at our farm in New Brighton or delivered right to your freezer! Contact Jamie at 440-653-3918 or [email protected] to order or to ask any questions.

There's no doubt it's a dreary day outside. We are keeping dry and welcoming our first litter of the year in the barn.

Sausage breakfast sliders for brunch today to fuel us on this beautiful day. Tip: use the rings for Mason jars to cook sandwich size eggs for breakfast sandwiches! Coat with a little oil or nonstick spray first. Pic in comments.

Tonight we had smoked duck for dinner! Our first batch of ducks sold out but we still have a few more ducks available to order for November. $6/lb and they range 4-6lbs. Also, plenty of chicken is still available fresh or frozen.

A delicious but strange dinner tonight because I didn't plan well. Homemade fried rice is always delicious, but the only meat I had thawed was smoked pork chops which added a new yummy twist! We only have 1 pig left for October! Message or call Jamie at 440-653-3918 to order. Next pork will be February and we are already taking orders for that batch as well. Plenty of chicken ready for pickup immediately also (whole or any parts).

Breakfast for dinner! Our home grown pork (ham steaks cooked in a little maple syrup), hash browns, and french toast made with our free range eggs. We still have just a few bulk pork orders left for October. The next pork won't be until February or March.

Everyone on the farm enjoyed the cooler weather today.

Mickey is testing her limits by having 14 piglets last night with only 16 nipples to feed them. With large litters like this we stay up all night and let them feed in shifts, 7 at a time, to make sure they are all eating adequately. Today we start letting them learn to eat all at once while still making sure everyone is getting enough. And also doing extra work to keep Mickey cool with fans and occasional cold hosing. Bottom line is... we're tired and more busy than usual today! Please excuse any delayed responses or unanswered calls, but we will get back to you when we can!

We cooked one of our pasture raised chickens in our new smoker and it was so delicious and tender! We now have all chicken parts in stock in the freezer. Boneless breasts are $6/lb and legs, thighs, or wings are $5/lb. We are taking preorders for whole chickens that can be ready as early as this weekend. $4/lb. ... We still have lean ground turkey ($6/lb) and turkey legs or wings ($5/lb) available also. Message through Facebook, email [email protected], or call/text 440-653-3918 to place an order.

The chickens are always ready to swoop in and steal some of the calf feed if they aren't looking. The calves have gotten big and are being weaned from bottle feeding!

We got a new electric smoker and our first test of it was a pork butt from our own naturally raised pork. This was the best pulled pork I've ever eaten! I can't wait to smoke a chicken with it. And turkey legs. And wings. And ribs. If anyone is in the market for an electric smoker, Lowe's has the one we got on sale for $100 off but the sale ends TODAY. https://www.lowes.com//Masterbuilt-John-McLemo/1000386183
