The figs somehow continue to ripen, with great flavor. Every few days we are picking 25 lbs or so. The standouts this season in terms of flavor and volume have been: unk Owensboro, Teramo, susser Georg, unk Fenicco, Nexoe, Longue d’Aout, and Pelligrino. Here is a quick YouTube video that highlights a few of the in ground fig trees. Thanks. https://youtu.be/_cA2tNr4C9M

Today’s haul. After sending 25 pounds of figs to the restaurants, we picked some more. We ran out of containers. Message if You are local and interested in a pint, quart, dozen, etc. This is definitely peak season. Sweet and delicious! We also have some paw paw fruits for sale as well.

This is a quick video now that the figs in ground are starting to ripen. The Teramo was first (8/22) along with Florea. The Mt Etnas are also starting to ripen. This was a very good sign. We had a very mild winter in the northeast, but two main challenges occurred that put the season’s harvest at risk. First, the mild fall allowed ripening last season, but kept the wood from lignifying. Therefore, when the coldest temps of winter came in early December, there was already major dieback. The second challenge was an extremely late frost in mid May. This really took a toll on the sprouts and emerging leaves in the orchard. It looks like the warm summer has helped the figs catch up, so hopefully there should be a good harvest in September. https://youtu.be/XJzl5mVcCpA

Here is a video of splitting some turmeric, ginger, and galangal in pots. Ideally, they grow best in raised beds, but with the late frosts this spring, I started them in pots. Turmeric is the most vigorous grower of rhizomes, and all of these can be overwintered as houseplants. In the spring, they can be brought out and planted in the beds or up potted. They are available for pick up or shipping for 15 dollars each. PM for ordering. I may put these on the website later https://youtu.be/HbBKxOoyyWg
