Mark your calendars for what will be a lively and fascinating trialogue with Rabbi Gerber, Rabbi Miller and Chassidic teacher of religion and philosophy, Zevi Slavin, zooming in from Israel. The question on the table: What does the belief in the possibility of direct experience of Oneness with God have to do with how we live with one another on th...is earth? Zevi, an Australian native, was raised, educated and ordained in a Chassidic community. It was there that he fell in love with Jewish mysticism, a love which then spread to all mystical traditions. Zevi has studied and taught at both religious and academic institutions in Australia, North America, South Africa and Israel. He is currently reading, thinking and writing, building content, conversation and community, with the hopes of creating a more intimate, tender and caring world with the tools of philosophy and religion. On April 13 at 7:30 p.m. Ohev Shalom will sponsor a Zoom presentation featuring Louis Schmidt who interviewed Holocaust survivors for the Shoah Foundation (founded by Steven Spielberg). Mr. Schmidt will discuss the genesis of his involvement and how he was chosen for the position. He will also speak about some of the remarkable videotaped conversations he conducted regarding one of the darkest periods in modern history. Open to all. For the Zoom link email [email protected]

June 1 (Tuesday), 7:30 p.m. Cantor Marshall Portnoy speaks on "The Magic is in the Music." Did you ever wonder where the music that we sing and chant on Shabbat comes from? Is our Alenu "tune" from Warsaw? Maybe Berlin? Or Cincinnati? Does Torah trop go back hundreds of years? Is anything left in our music that might have its roots in ancient Israel? Is there anything distinctively American in our music? How is it continuing to evolve?... Dial into the Ohev Zoom at 7:30 p.m. on June 1 and we'll get to hear Marshall Portnoy - Cantor Emeritus at Main Line Reform, distinguished composer, and author of the uniquely wonderful The Art of Cantillation - address these questions and much more. SPECIAL TIKKUN FOR SHAVUOT Sunday, May 16th from 2 to 4 p.m. On Sunday, May 16th, we are doing an afternoon of learning in honor of the holiday of Shavuot. Traditionally, Jewish communities hold what’s called a Tikkun Leyl Shavuot, which involves studying long into the night in order to recreate the excitement our ancestors felt on the night before receiving the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. This year, we’re running things a bit differently (because of course we are...). W...e will be meeting outdoors on the lawn facing the synagogue parking lot from 2 to 4 p.m. Sign-ups ahead of time are required.
