Ohiopyle State Park

Blizzard at Baughman. We are expecting 5~9 more inches of snow before tomorrow morning. We are under a Winter Weather Advisory until then. Roadways are treacherous. Please give our staff time to clear lots.

A reminder to all that bear season starts tomorrow. This year it runs from tomorrow through Tuesday, including Sunday. Most of the park is open to hunting so being cautious and wearing some orange is recommended. The park map outlines hunting areas. The Ferncliff Peninsula is open for bow hunting only so is a good choice for hiking.

In order to comply with new COVID19 guidance, the exhibits in the Ohiopyle State Park Visitor's Center will be closing tomorrow. The center will be closed on weekends at least through January 15. The restroom facilities at the Visitor's Center and Train Station will remain open during normal hours, including weekends. Thank you all for your understanding.

We are happy to report that the Ohiopyle maintenance crew has removed the large strainer from Cucumber rapid. Lower Yough boaters should check the posting at the launch for an updated strainer listing.

We grow weary. Today was another day spent cleaning up at Ohiopyle. Our specialties today were lots of graffiti, 6 plastic bags full of dog poop(one nicely suspended on a stick), and even a diaper nicely draped on a tree. If you raise garbage up off the ground, it’s still garbage. Dumpsters and trash cans are located in all major parking lots. Thanks to all who gather garbage when they visit. We wish it wasn’t necessary. Please practice Leave No Trace principals when you are here.
