Although 19th-century women were increasingly engaged in church activities like serving on church boards, teaching Sunday School & Bible studies, being involved in mission work, and agitating for temperance, they were forbidden official privileges. However, the PCUSA finally supported women’s suffrage in 1917, although it did not allow female deacons until 1922, and female Elders until 1930. Women could not be ordained as ministers until 1956.
Celebrate Women’s History Month.

Black History Month at Old Pine Conservancy. Scots Presbyterian Church merged with Old Pine Street in the 20th century. Hannah Till, liberated from enslavement, was cook for Washington and Lafayette and was in communion with Scots Presbyterian when her son was baptized after being born in the American camp at Valley Forge. Till later joined the First African Presbyterian Church. Old Pine St Presbyterian Church
