These beautiful ladies -- Jenna and her daughter -- are the inspiration for the founding of One Day to Remember back in 2016 and were the recipients of our very first outing! While fighting metastatic laryngeal cancer, Jenna met our founder, Rachel (who was working as an #oncologynurse at @hillmancancercenter ). Like many oncology nurses, Rachel wondered how she could do more for her patient. Rachel asked for help from some friends, and was able to arrange for Jenna and her d...aughter to spend 'One Day' being pampered with makeovers from @capristosalonandspa and a full photoshoot from @laurenreneephoto in Schenley Park! The end result? They were able to enjoy being together and have this incredibly special memory in the midst of all of the stress and darkness of battling cancer. The smiles on their faces say it all, don't they??

Have you ever heard of two siblings (not twins) having the exact same birthday?! Us either! Andrew and Jonathan are four years apart in age but share the same birthday!! Their world forever changed a few years ago when their dad was diagnosed with stage 4 nasopharyngeal cancer. When a nurse at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center told them about One Day to Remember, Jenn, the boys' mom, could not think of a better birthday present for the boys than to spend a wonderful, fun-filled d...ay with their dad. They started their day with a special tour of WPXI-TV Pittsburgh where they presented the boys with a beautiful birthday cake. They then went on to have a ball at Pinball Perfection and finished their day at the Pittsburgh Steelers game! Meet Lucie, a 12-year old girl whose mother, Julie, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Peritoneal Cancer back in 2017. Julie's biggest concern was how Lucie was coping with her diagnosis and treatment. During their One Day outing, it was so clear to Julie that Lucie's spirit came back. She told us how amazing it was to see her daughter look and act like herself again. When One Day to Remember started out, we knew the outings were going to be vital for children to engage with their p...arents outside of treatments and hospital stays. What we didn't realize was how important it was for the parents to see their kids thrive without the burden of the diagnosis, as well. In fact, Julie said of her outing, "It was a day when we didn't have to talk about the elephant in the room." Sadly, Julie passed away in March of 2018, but we are happy to know that Lucie will forever have this One Day to Remember with her mom. If you or someone you know might benefit from a One Day to Remember Outing, please get in touch with us today at the link below. We would love to help you plan a special day that's all about you and your family. : Adam Michaels https://www.onedaytoremember.org

When Tara Johnson was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer 2 years ago, she was living from doctors' appointment to doctors' appointment. After two extensive surgeries, she was struggling to be involved in her 8 and 10-year-olds lives. Treatment was 1.5 hours away and side effects limited her time even more with her children. For One Day last November, Tara did not have to worry about driving, chemotherapy, or surgery, she focused on smiling and spending time with her famil...y.
