Everyone talks about being physically healthy, however, have you ever thought about keeping your brain healthy? Our brains are so much of who we are, we should be intentional on keeping it healthy. Concussion, migraines, headaches, etc. all can be crippling to our brain and cause unwanted feelings like, dizziness, fatigue, sharp pain, confusion, and much more. Here at LSCI we want to make sure you are taking care of your brain health. Check out these tips below! Fuel your mi...nd! It’s important to give our brain a lot of antioxidants such as, berries, nuts, and fats. These help with reducing damage from oxidation and can help long term with preventing memory loss. Protect your head! During sports, on the field, or just throughout every day experience, it’s important to protect your brain. Ways you can protect are helmets, being aware of what is around you, hard hats, seat belts, etc. These all are great ways to prevent your head from sudden jerks and getting hit by something. Sleep! Sleeping is the best time for our bodies to reset and heal. With inadequate sleep, it can cause strain on your brain, memory, and over all health. Be sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep at night to allow your brain to heal! ~Alisha

The National Safety Council is hosting the 25th annual safety month which is always held in June. The purpose is to promote safety by hosting weekly themes that provide resources to help reduce and eliminate accidents on the job. As Safety & Health Professionals, we strongly support and share the same mission as the NSC and are providing our own set our materials, resources, and information. We are not sponsored or affiliated with the National Safety Council except for being members ourselves. Our sole purpose is to promote safety by sharing resources and other helpful tips. Counting down the days until you can lounge your day away on a raft in your pool? Us too! Make sure you and your family can relax in style while being safe at the same time. The CDC sponsors Healthy and Safe Swimming week (May 24-28th) each year to help educate and ensure a fun and safe summer: Make sure everyone has basic swimming skills and water safety awareness. Provide continuous and close supervision to anyone swimming in the pool. Know how to recognize and respo...nd to a swimmer in distress and how to preform CPR if needed. Keep pool chemicals secure and away from any children or pets. Take plenty of precautions to protect yourself from the sun, use shade, clothing, sunglasses, or sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. Now you can be at least a little bit more prepared to float your worries away. Don’t forget the tiny umbrella for your drink & safe swimming! -Aly

It's Fire Prevention Week! During a fire, seconds or minutes can determine life or death. Children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly should all know the importance of fire safety and what to do if they were in a fire situation. Families should create a home fire escape plan by following these guidelines: Draw a map of the rooms inside your house. ... Mark two exits from each room and mark the pathway from each exit to the outside. Include the location of the smoke alarms in your house. Choose an outside muster point near your home where all family members can meet after exiting. Add 911 of the local emergency phone number you plan to call to your map. Make plans to call the emergency number outside from either a cell phone or a neighbor’s home phone. Practice this evacuation plan at least twice a year. See more

One of our Project Coordinators, Sarah Rothrock, was recently interviewed in the Safety + Health magazine about Injury and Illness Recordkeeping. We've all dealt with it at some point, and can relate to how confusing it can seem. Sarah was interviewed because she has spent many years assisting clients in their recordkeeping. Sarah was quoted as saying, People aren’t always familiar with that. They think, ‘If I don’t have to record [injuries or illnesses on an OSHA log], ...then I don’t have to report.’ According to the standard, all employers under OSHA jurisdiction must inform OSHA of any reportable incidents, even employers who are exempt from routinely maintaining OSHA recordkeeping forms. We are so proud of Sarah for not only having the extensive knowledge on this subject but that she was chosen specifically for this article. Well done! https://www.safetyandhealthmagazine.com//20306-injury-and-
