Palmerton Borough

The water main break in the 400 block of Franklin Avenue has been repaired. It is not necessary for residents to boil their water, since no cross-contamination took place. The water may be cloudy. Residents are advised to run their water for a few minutes until the water runs clear. This leak caused low water pressure in a number of areas in town, but that should also be resolved.

Due to a water main break, water has been shut off to most of the residents in the 400 block of Franklin Avenue. Our Water Department has found, and is working to repair, the break. Residents in the area will be given advice about any steps they need to take once the repairs are complete.

PALMERTON BOROUGH will be conducting HYDRANT FLUSHING throughout its system for water quality maintenance between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the Palmerton area and portions of Aquashicola beginning on or after May 6, 2021 and continuing until all the hydrants are flushed. When the crew is working in your area, the water may become discolored and the pressure may be reduced. The water is SAFE TO DRINK but you should RUN EACH FAUCET UNTIL THE WATER IS CLEAR, especially before washing clothes. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT AT THIS TIME YOU SET WATER ASIDE FOR DRINKING THE NEXT DAY.

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and Pa. Dept. of Environmental protection will hold a virtual public meeting May 4 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. to take comment from the public on a proposed settlement with American Zinc Recycling Corp (AZR). The settlement was a result of a federal-state lawsuit citing violations of air, water, and hazardous waste environmental laws at AZR's facility in Palmerton. The voting location for residents who live in the middle and west districts of Palmerton Borough has changed. Last year, voting took place at the Palmerton Municipal Fire Company at Fifth Street and Lehigh Avenue. This year these two districts will vote at the Palmerton Borough Garage, located at 402 Third Street. Residents in the east district will continue voting at the Palmerton Ambulance. Primary Election Day is Tuesday, May 18.

In anticipation of the upcoming snow storm, our trash hauler will arrive very early Wednesday morning to collect trash. Residents should place their trash out tonight for collection in the morning.

Our trash haulers were unable to finish the collection route today. Specifically missed was the Residence Park area. They will return tomorrow morning to complete the route. Thank you for your understanding.

We have a supply of firewood at the chipping area along Third Street. It is free for pickup by anyone on a first come-first served basis.

The ramps from Palmerton to 248 eastbound (Walnutport) and from 248 east (Bowmanstown) to Palmerton were supposed to be open today. They are still working on them and anticipate they will open up sometime this afternoon. Therefore, the westbound ramp from Walnutport into Palmerton and the westbound ramp from Palmerton to Bowmanstown are currently open until the others are closed this afternoon. This is the only change reported from PennDOT this morning.
