May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental Health does not only affect adults. 3.1 million youth, ages 12-17 have major depression, with an additional 2 million with Severe Depression (Mental Health America, The state of Mental Health in America 2021). 1.1 million Youth, many with mental health symptoms, have a substance use disorder (Mental Health America). Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among individuals between ages 10-34 years of age. In 2018, there were 596 10-14 year olds and 6211 15-24 year olds who died by suicide (National Institutes of Mental Health). And did you know that nearly 1 million youth with private insurance, did not have mental or emotional problems covered by that insurance?

Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) for Direct Care Staff Working in Outpatient Settings develops skills in the recognition, assessment, and management of suicide risk and the delivery of effective suicide-specific interventions. The course provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to address suicide risk and behaviors in outpatient settings. Participants will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge a...nd apply practical skills. Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) teaches the core competencies that meet suicide care standards established by national organizations including The Joint Commission, the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Veterans Administration, and others.
