Today, is annual "Book Direct" Day. It is often possible to find a property you are considering renting on the owner's stand-alone website. A honeymooning couple from Nice, France, came to Clearfield specifically to experience the Big Burger! The bride explained she wanted to do something that she couldn't do in France. Sounds like the motivation for the Japanese film company is similar. Most of the online vacation rental sites charge 6% to 15% over and above the rental fee to book a vacation through their websites. Booking directly with owners will save you lots of $$. I'm sharing this poster with permission of another vacation rental property owner. A few "Elk viewing tips" to remember for your trip: Best times to view are in the evenings leading up to dark and just after daylight. Never approach the elk, ...they are wild animals and you need to treat them as such. If at The Center, you need to remain on our "gravel" paths and at the viewing walls. Always bring your camera! You may see elk in the most unlikely spot/time that can create a great memory. We know you'll get excited if you spot them along the road, but please remember do not stop on the road, block traffic... Residents are trying to get home, get to work, get kids to school. Watch for elk along the woods line, in dark shaded area, near water. If the elk aren't out, don't be discouraged, Visit one of the unique gift shops, wineries, restaurants, wood carvers or ice cream stops throughout the area! Most locations have tourism information to help you! Always fuel up! While we do have a gasoline location in town for your convenience, you may get sidetracked viewing and run low due to our rural location. Watch for wildlife! Wildlife often cross the highway, so be prepared. Viewing Areas: there are MANY different viewing locations in the area provided so you can safely get off the road and out of your car. Location maps are available at The Visitor Center, we would be happy to give you one, along with an Elk State Forest map. Please respect private property, do not enter lawns or driveways to view. Most of all, enjoy... relax, and unwind. Your time in Elk Country is meant to be fun, let us and the other local businesses help make sure your trip is a great one! We look forward to having you.
