In the northeast part of our Commonwealth is Susquehanna County. Although they do not have a princess for the 2021-2022 year, they still have a team of young ladies who are excited and willing to promote the dairy industry. Elizabeth Chidester did a truly wonderful job serving as the 2020-2021 Susquehanna County Dairy Princess, and we would like to thank her for dedication throughout the past year. #PADairyPrincess

Today is day 8 of our 12 Days of Dairy. Did you know that one gallon of milk weighs a little more than 8 pounds? In fact, even milk on the farm is measured in pounds instead of by volume. Measuring milk in pounds helps make sure counts are accurate. It is a lot easier to mess up calculating volume than it is to weigh milk. The price of milk paid to farmers is determined per hundredweight, or per 100 pounds of milk. ... #PADairyPrincess #ChoosePADairy #PADairyFarmers #AveryDairyChristmas

Today is day 7 of the 12 Days of Dairy. When looking over the picturesque Pennsylvania countryside you probably see a lot of black and white cows. In fact, about 90% of all cows in the United States are this black and white cow, called a Holstein. But did you know that there are seven breeds of dairy cattle that are recognized today? Each breed is special and has great characteristics: ... The Guernsey produces milk almost yellow in color because of a high content of beta carotene, and also contains higher amounts of butterfat and protein, giving this breed the nick name Golden Guernsey. The Ayrshire hails from Scotland and is has a gorgeous mahogany brown color to her spots. The Jersey is the smallest of all the dairy cows but don’t let her size fool you, she can produce just as much milk as the other breeds! The Brown Swiss is thought to be the oldest breed of dairy cow. The Red and White Holstein is the new kid on the block when it comes to dairy breeds, as they have only been around since the 1960’s. The Milking Shorthorn was the first breed of dairy cow to arrive in the United States. They even helped pull covered wagons and provided their families with milk along the way. The Holstein breed can make it hard to tell two cows apart from one another but their farmer can tell exactly who each one is because no two Holsteins have the same spot pattern. Every dairy farm has a favorite breed, but the love and care the farmer has for their cows is the same no matter what breed they prefer. What is your favorite breed of dairy cow? #PADairyPrincess #ChoosePADairy #PADairyFarmers #AveryDairyChristmas

Today is day 6 of our 12 Days of Dairy. Cows spend most of their day either sleeping, resting, or grazing in a pasture. But there’s not much cows enjoy doing more than eating and they spend an average of six hours a day doing so. Through every stage of their lives from calf to heifer to cow, these ladies have specific diets tailored to their nutritional needs. The different components to a cows diet can also change seasonally and it’s all delivered right to the cow like r...oom service. What a luxurious life! Monitoring and adjusting cows’ food is an important aspect to keeping them healthy and strong and most importantly, keeps them producing high quality milk that we enjoy. #PADairyPrincess #ChoosePADairy #PADairyFarmers #AveryDairyChristmas

Today is day 5 of our 12 Days of Dairy. Did you know that across the entire commonwealth, the Pennsylvania dairy industry provides over 52,000 jobs? While dairy farmers are essential on the farm to take care of their cows and calves, many other people are involved in the process too. Veterinarians visit farms regularly to check on herd health. Milk truck drivers transport milk from farms to processing plants. Nutritionists make sure cows receive proper nutrition by mixing ...feed specific to their herd’s health needs. While we named three different jobs, there are many more involved in making sure cows are happy and healthy and the dairy products you enjoy and safe and delicious. When you choose to purchase real Pennsylvania dairy products you not only support the farm that supplies that milk but you also do your part to support some of the 52,000 industry members who make the Pennsylvania dairy industry so wonderful. Thank you to all dairy industry workers both on and off the farm. #PADairyPrincess #ChoosePADairy #PADairyFarmers #AveryDairyChristmas

Today is day four of our 12 Days of Dairy. Did you know today is recognized as National Cookie Day? Celebrating the holiday season is not complete without baking homemade cookies with your family. This year make sure you use real dairy products in all of your baking. Using butter and milk will make your cookies thicker and softer, and create more delicious and flakey pie crusts. The flavor that real butter adds to your baking can not be mimicked by alternative products. ... So as you pull out your baking supplies this year to make memories with your family, make sure you also choose real dairy products, your holiday guests will thank you! #PADairyPrincess #ChoosePADairy #PADairyFarmers #AveryDairyChristmas

Laughing and crying seems to be a reoccurring theme throughout this past year and state pageant was no different. This year was not what we expected but it was our year nonetheless and we are eternally grateful for each of the 365 days we were given. Thank you for sharing our journey with us and thank you for constantly supporting our team, our program, and the industry that we all know and love. So as the 2019-2020 State Royalty Team here are some of our last remarks: "I ho...pe my small voice made an impact this year on even one person. I just truly want to show my immense gratitude for all the hard work, dedication, and delicious products from everyone in the dairy industry. So thank you PA Dairy Farmers, thank you." 2019-20 PA Alternate Dairy Princess Although this year has been discounted as a interruption in many ways, we must acknowledge it for was it is, and was: life. Denae Iva Hershberger, 2019-20 PA Alternate Dairy Princess Adversity shakes the foundation of our character to see if what we believe and value is worth fighting for, and I think I can speak for everyone when I say the dairy industry is worth fighting for. Can anyone guess who the winning creamery from the Southeast region was?? With a overwhelming number of votes, Heisler’s Clovercreek Dairy in Schuylkill County won the in the region! Although we could not have a promotion at this location, we still felt like we needed to deliver and try out their ice cream! Their most popular ice cream flavor is cookie dough; it was creamy, full of chocolate chips, and perfect to fill anyone’s sweet tooth but of course there could always ...be some more cookie dough pieces Thank you to everyone who participated during our hunt for the best ice cream in PA!! STAY TUNED FOR THE CREAMERY WHO WILL WIN THE TITLE OF HAVING THE BEST ICE CREAM IN PA! @ Heisler's Cloverleaf Dairy Farm
