Today marks a new day in the White House...the day when a rescue dog will live there! Major Biden's new residency is particularly sweet, as the Bidens adopted the German Shepherd in 2018 from the Delaware Humane Association. He'll join big brother and very good boy, Champ there too. Today, we celebrate the possibilities for just what can happen for all the great dogs who need homes.

Sometimes all you really need is a slow motion video of a dog eating peanut butter. It helps when that dog is fan favorite, Lovie. This video was taken when Lovie was still with us in our hospital, but not to worry, today she is comfy in a foster home. Soon, she'll be in search of a #furever family. We love you, Lovie, just as much (if not more) as you love peanut butter.

It's no secret, a lot of dogs do not want to go outside when it is raining! So, what do you do? How do you get out in the rain to let then do their business? How do you get them out the front door? On this week's #PetProject, Animal advocate Carol Erickson joined CBS Philly with some tips.

How it started How it's going! Sapphire, who you may remember from April, arrived into our care emaciated and in need of help. Almost certainly due to her past, she displayed some resource guarding of her food. While she was recovering medically, our behavior team worked with her from day one to secure a bright future. And that’s exactly what she got! ... She’s been happily in her #furever home for quite some time now...and she sure is beautiful.

Maxx is looking for an adopter to take him to all of his dental appointments. And to love him unconditionally and #furever. It's another #MondayswithMaxx. Share this boy's story to help him find his people. We know they are out there! "Maxx here. How much more handsome can I be to have someone want to adopt me? I'm affectionate, know basic cues (sit, down, shake, fetch) and I Iove to play and take walks. I'm a big guy and I do have a lot of energy but I'm also a champion snug...gler and would be very happy to settle next to my person with a chew toy or a snooze. Due to my size and energy level, I need an experienced, adult-only home. I can also be a bit picky about my dog friends so I'd prefer to be an only dog. But I can make you this promise: I will be forever faithful and your best friend for life - ‘cause that's how I roll. If you think I'd be a good fit for you and your family, contact our adoptions team at [email protected]" See more

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others? - Martin Luther King Jr. Lower Merion School District students and their families are honoring the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by engaging in a variety of safe, socially distant community service projects today, including creating dog toys for PAWS and PSPCA. What are you doing today to honor King and this national day of service?

Hooray for Gumdrop! A 3-year-old pit bull named Gumdrop ended 2020 as a stray on the streets of Denver. But he started 2021 by making history as the first pit bull legally adopted since voters repealed a ban on the breed that had stood for over 30 years.

Special delivery! It's nearly November and kitten season seems to be never ending this year. Last week we pulled Minerva and her six kittens from ACCT Philly into our care. They headed straight to foster where mommy Minerva is doing a wonderful job taking care of her babies. They will stay there to get bigger and stronger before being ready for adoption. Talk about a lazy Sunday. Haze, an 8-year-old pittie, came into our care when we pulled her from ACCT Philly. She headed straight into foster care where she has been lounging around with her temporary family ever since. Her foster family fell immediately in love with her and sent the following glowing report: "Haze is a sweet, loving, affectionate, caring dog! She loves to be around our 8 and 10 year old kids, often searching them out throughout the house. She seems to be a ...loyal dog, preferring to stick by your side, lay next to you when you're working or watching tv. She's bonded quickly to all 4 of us in the house. She just wants to be loved and share her love with others! She'd make a great companion!" If Haze sounds like the girl for you, she is in search of her #furever family. Email [email protected] to get the process started!

"I met a dog who almost died. A dog I could never forget, even if I tried. I met a dog who broke my heart A dog who will always remind me to do my part.... I seriously can't say enough amazing things about our hospital staff. I'm so proud of this boy for pulling through." Our Humane Law Enforcement Officer, Jen Nields has a special bond with Sway, our recently rescued German Shepherd who was in critical condition when he arrived. "Let me tell you about my best friend." October is National Pitbull Awareness Month and we're taking this opportunity to bust myths about pitties. Just take it from Topaz. Topaz the pittie, who was adopted from the PSPCA seven years ago, recently made a new best friend when Spock, the blind foster kitten moved in temporarily. These two cuddle, snuggle and play together. ... Did you know: - Pitbulls were not bred as guard dogs because they were too friendly. (!) - Pitbulls do not have locking jaws. That's a myth! - In temperment tests, pitbulls were the second most tolerant breed behind Golden Retrievers. - In the early part of the last century, pitbulls were known as Nanny Dogs. They were the breed of choice among parents with young children. Did you know that October is Pitbull Awareness Month? We want to share the stories of some of our velvet hippos to bust myths about them. Today, we'll introduce you to Ollie who just celebrated the 6th anniversary of his gotcha day. Here's what his mom had to say: "I just want to thank the PSPCA for the life-saving work you do every day. I especially want to thank you for the day you saved my best friend. Ollie was brought to the PSPCA by a Good Samaritan who found him aba...ndoned, running loose, bleeding from multiple wounds, and half-starved. They donated funds to cover his medical care and then the PSPCA posted a picture of him, an 8-month-old pitbull whose eyes were full of love & hope despite his wounds. The minute I saw that photo of Ollie, I knew that my life was going to change forever because of this pitbull puppy. I brought Ollie home October 15, 6 years ago, and it was the best thing I have ever done. Period. Pitbulls love completely, and have been called nanny dogs because of the care and protection they give to their humans. Ollie is a gentle soul, innately curious about the world around him, and happiest on a lap when not playing wall-ball. Ollie loves flowers. And he loves naps. Ollie especially loves reading the Sunday papers with me. Ollie is so photogenic that I literally have 1000's of photos of him. On his homecoming day, I wanted to honor your everyday work which saved his life, which connected him to his forever-mom, and which changes the lives of so many beautiful pitbulls like Ollie everyday. Speaking for both of us, we will forever be grateful to the PSPCA." Trooper is ready for fall. Someone grab her a pumpkin spice latte...and a #furever home! Trooper was rescued by our Humane Law Enforcement team in January of LAST year! In January 2021, she will have been in our care for TWO years! The reason why? Well, Trooper has some allergies, causing her to sometimes self mutilate - but she is more than happy to wear festive and fashionable sweaters. Our medical team can talk you through all of Trooper's needs, which are actually very ...few. She'll reward you with a lifetime of love. We're including her bio below, but please help spread the word! "Trooper is an incredibly affectionate and cuddly cat. While she can take some time to get comfortable with you, once she does, she will be on your lap every chance she gets. Trooper's got a lot of personality, and makes it known when she wants your attention and when she wants to be left alone. Her favorite toy is a laser pointer and she loves to play with ribbon and to chase the small mouse stuffies her foster mom has. But her favorite thing to do is to spend time with you on a fuzzy blanket. Trooper loves food - any kind of food, so don't leave your leftovers out on the table..Even when she and her foster family moved she always used the litter box. She's living with another cat, but would also love to be the center of your attention. Trooper is a real sweet gal who deserves a home that will give her the love she needs. Trooper is a special adoption medically, so you will talk to one of my friend about how to take care of me best! If you would like to know more about her or arrange to meet her, please contact our adoptions team at [email protected] Thank you for reading about her."

Still adorable, still waiting for adoption... 6-month-old Luke is on the prowl for his #furever home. "Hi friends, I'm Luke! A handsome little fellow who made his way to Philly after being scooped up by a lovely good samaritan in Danville! I'm learning that being a city boy is pretty darn cool. My foster parents say I'm a pretty chill guy, I love playing with my dog foster sister, riding in cars, and having my hair blow-dried! I'm a very nice little man who is ready to find ...his forever home! Email my friends at [email protected] to learn more about me." #WhiskerWednesday

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. How is the most perfect senior dog, Abbey, not adopted yet? We think she's starting to get a bit down, so we're helping give her a pep talk today. Repeat after us, Abbey is the goodest girl. Abbey is the goodest girl. Abbey is part pittie, part baby hippo and all love. In between naps she pencils in some playtime. She is house broken, crate trained, great on a leash. She loves to snuggle on the couch, but she also loves a long walk when it's co...ol outside. Abbey is hearing impaired, so thunderstorms, vacuums, and visits by the mailman are no problem. In fact Abbey has never met a person she doesn't like. Abbey is a smart cookie, she knows hand signals and her foster parents are working with her on new tricks. Overall, this senior girl, she's just 6, is the best. She is looking to be the only animal in the home, but she is the goodest girl. Email [email protected] today to adopt Abbey! PS - did we mention her adoption fee is waived?
