As a fire department, our duty is to provide all types of emergency service to our community. In the event of an emergency our volunteer members respond not knowing what might happen when they get there. On the way to the fire department or scene some of our members have blue and red emergency lights on their vehicles. There is a difference between the colors for a reason. Blue lights are courtesy lights. You aren't required to pull over, but knowing these members are respon...ding to an emergency it's more of a respectful and safe gesture. Some of our chief officers are equipped with red (red=stop) lights. During a response, civilians must pull over for these vehicles. A driver can't always acknowledge what another driver's maneuver will be so the safest option is to pull over and let them pass. These rules are put in place for our members and the community's safety. Accidents will always happen, but common sense is a good preventative measure. After all, this service couldn't be provided to the community without these brave men and women who risk their lives on the daily. Thank you.
