Is one of your New Year’s resolutions to start taking action on the issues you care about? Specifically, to become involved in local conservation? The Pennypack Trust is looking for locally-minded volunteers who are passionate about the environment for its ReForesters program. No experience is required, we will teach you everything you need to know! As a ReForester, you would care for your own plantation at the Pennypack Trust on your own schedule. Skills you would acquire in...clude young tree care, plant identification, invasive species removal, and ecological restoration strategies. To see the impact that our ReForesters are already making on the Preserve and sign up to become one, click the link below: https://pennypacktrust.org/support/reforesters/

On Saturday, December 19th, we participated in the 121st annual Christmas Bird Count with National Audubon Society and our local chapter, Wyncote Audubon Society. We counted 38 species in three and a half hours across the Pennypack Trust. Chipping Sparrows, Golden-crowned Kinglets, an American Kestrel, and a Great Horned Owl were some of the highlights. Thank you volunteers, Fran and Harris Brown, and Pennypack Trust Board Member, Amy Buick, for helping out with this years Christmas Bird Count! Join us tonight! The Pennypack Creek has long been considered an impaired waterbody, incapable of supporting many aquatic species that should be common. Yet this conclusion has mostly been drawn from the largest sections of the Creek. Join Pennypack Streamkeepers Peter Gkonos and Nick Macelko, PERT research staff, and PERT intern Rachel Zobel to hear their exciting re-discovery of some of Pennypack Creek’s missing species hiding out in tributaries. While protecting land, we often think about its future. It is only natural to also think about the future of conservation professionals. As we do our work, each year we invite interns to work alongside of us, preparing them to make their mark in the environmental field. Thanks to BLBB Charitable, we were able to sponsor our 2020 summer interns. Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust has a strong educational tradition, and is proud to help shape the careers of young conservation professionals.
