Hello and Happy Friday! We have some very exciting news to share: Peoples Oakland will resume our limited in-person programming next week! Please review the important details / information. We have missed everyone so much and can't wait to see you soon!
Good (sunny) Afternoon and Happy Friday! Please see and share these two important pieces of information -- vaccination and housing voucher resources! Have a safe and wonderful weekend, everyone!
A really great Oakland event on Monday, April 26th -- check it out!
Good Afternoon! As scheduling for vaccinations will dramatically open up this week for anyone age 16 or older (https://www.ahn.org/coronavirus. Appointments can also be made by calling 412-DOCTORS between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.), we wanted to share this additional wonderful resource: https://truthnotcovid.org/ It features a series of videos shot with trusted local Black and Brown doctors and other experts, sharing the factual/scientific information for safely navigating the pandemic. It also includes more than a dozen videos with community voices and stories of resilience. Check it out and pass it along! Keep staying safe and healthy!
Hello and Happy Friday! We want to take a moment and remind our Peoples Oakland Members to please join any (or all!) of our fun and supportive Virtual Groups through Zoom! Every day, M-F, we host a variety of topics, 3 times/day, to allow for engaging discussions, sharing some laughs, and to just help break up the boredom and feel connected with friendly, familiar faces! Please see the schedule below! If you need any assistance with using Zoom, please give us a call: 412-683...-7140. The meeting ID for all the groups is: 133 729 051 Thank you and we hope to see you in Group! As always, please continue to take good care and know we are here for you! #WeArePeoplesOakland
Greetings, friends, and Happy New Year! We trust you are as well as can be and feel hopeful for 2021. We'd like to share a message of hope, from NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health). The author, Katherine, is a mental health advocate, lawyer, and peer. She shares a personal letter to anyone living with mental illness and we, Peoples Oakland, echo the same message. Below is an excerpt and please click on the NAMI link to read the full letter. As always, know that you matt...er, know that you are loved, and continue taking the best care possible! #WeArePeoplesOakland "Recovery can be hard to reach. It was for me. But the rewards are great. You may make mistakes, experience setbacks and disappointments, and get discouraged. We all do. But that’s all part of the journey. Recovery is not a straight path. You must never give up. Every step will make you stronger and stronger. Much better days lie ahead for you. Love yourself. Know that you are loved, worthy, deserving and capable. You’ve got what it takes. We’re all rooting for you and need you. We’ll be with you every step of the way, in our thoughts and hearts. We believe in you. You have to believe in you, too."
Sharing a supportive resource.
Today is #GivingTuesday! It is touted as a "global generosity movement" unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. In the United States, it refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. And that's today!! Peoples Oakland is participating in a 24-hour fundraiser through Give Big Pittsburgh! Great prizes, too! Check it out and please consider showing your support. Thank You! https://www.givebigpittsburgh.com/organiza/peoples-oakland
Save the Date! Next Tuesday, December 1st, Peoples Oakland will be participating in a 24-hour fundraiser through Give Big Pittsburgh! Fabulous prizes, too! Every contribution matters and makes a difference, especially in this season of Thanks and Giving. Give Big Pittsburgh will raise money for local nonprofits through a single online donation platform, providing a simple way to connect donors to the charitable causes they care about most. This 24-hour online fundraising effort, hosted by Pittsburgh Magazine and local sponsors, offers nonprofits the chance to raise funds to support their critical missions. https://www.givebigpittsburgh.com/organizat/peoples-oakland
To our Peoples Oakland Family, It is with heavy hearts that we write to inform you that due to a serious surge in COVID-19 cases throughout Allegheny County, we will be suspending our drop-in programs until further notice. Our counselors will still be available to meet with you individually in-person or via telephone or Zoom. We will also be launching a new virtual group program beginning next week with increased opportunities for virtual connection. This also means we will n...o longer be able hold in-person holiday gatherings. We know this news comes as a great disappointment. As a staff, we have treasured every in-person moment we have spent with you since the beginning of the pandemic, but the safety of our members and staff will always be our number one priority. While we are closed, Peoples Oakland will be installing new filtration in our HVAC system designed to combat the spread of COVID-19. This will help to ensure safer indoor programming when we are able to reopen our building. We thank you for your understanding and we look forward to talking with you soon. Please continue to keep taking the best possible care of yourself. We are here for you! Sincerely, Peoples Oakland Staff 412-683-7140 www.peoplesoakland.org
