Are you bored of sitting at home during the Stay-At-Home Order? Compete in your own backyard with the SLF Egg Scraping Challenge! Spotted lanternfly eggs are c...lose to hatching in a month and they are a costly, destructive insect that needs to be controlled. While we are maintaining social distance to prevent the spread of COVID-19, why not stop the spread of an invasive pest in your own backyard? Here a few tips to help you scrape. Eggs are typically on the underside of branches and higher up in the tree canopy. Please only get what you can reach, do not hurt yourself. They are typically on plants such as Tree of Heaven, Maple, Cherry, Willow, Grape, and other smooth-barked trees. Finally, make sure you smash the eggs with gloves or a shoe or put them in alcohol once you scrape them. No eggs should survive! Now get scraping and share the number of eggs you have scraped to see if anyone can beat you. #SLFEggScrapingChallenge Image courtesy of Richard Gardner, Bugwood.org.
