From Co-op Theatre Company / Theatre Program at Drexel: After serving as the General Manager for #drexelcooptheatrecompany last year, Senior Entertainment and Arts Management major Margaux is excited to be virtually stage managing the plays "Anthony the Ant and Bernard the Spider" and "How Knut Got His Dreamhouse." Margaux notes that it's been really interesting getting back into stage management, especially in the new virtual format. It's kind of like going back to basics. She is looking forward to teching her shows and seeing them come together virtually. #themaskplays #drexelcooptheatre Drexel Co-Op Theatre Company is a program of the Department of Performing Arts. #drexelperformingarts #drexelwestphal

From Co-op Theatre Company / Theatre Program at Drexel: Second grader Joanna loved getting to be creative this summer as the playwright for A Rock and Roll Show. Her favorite character from her play is Nancy the Unicorn because she can turn into a mermicorn and swim. Speaking of swimming, Joanna loves to swim, draw, and read when she isn’t writing plays. #drexelcooptheatrecompany #themaskplays #mantuatheaterproject Drexel Co-Op Theatre Company is a program of the Department of Performing Arts. #drexelperformingarts #drexelwestphal

Since the switch to remote instruction, the students of Chamber Winds are rehearsing in real time using an application called SoundJack. Dr. Eve Friedman, director of the ensemble, shares, The learning curve is steep, but we have found it to be worth the effort! Not only are we learning about sound and its intersection with technology, we are actually able to rehearse together. On the left side of the screenshot, you can see that we are watching each other on Zoom, but everyone is muted there. Our audio is coming through SoundJack, which has much lower latency than Zoom. The left-hand side of the SoundJack screen shows all the settings we've become familiar with. Thank you, Dr. Friedman, for sharing your rehearsal process with us! Drexel Dance Co-Op Spotlight: Hannah Dolen Hannah Dolen ‘22, a Dance Major with a custom design track in performance and choreography, is currently placed at Sidra Bell Dance New York. She is an intern and production assistant, as well as an assistant for online rehearsals and classes with company and university collaborations. Hannah shares, In working with Sidra Bell, I’m learning from her choreographic and creative process both in person and virtually. In addition, I am... expanding my performance and improvisational skills through classes and one-on-one mentorship. I have been able to experience professional companies filming Sidra’s work in person and the creative process online which is opening my eyes and helping me to make connections for my own dance career. I’m getting to experience first hand what it looks like to be a part of a professional creative process, which is something I hope to continue in the future." Andrea Eleazar ’23, public health major and concertmaster of the Drexel University Symphony Orchestra, shared with us this photo of her practicing at home and wrote to us about her experience. She described, DUSO looks quite different now as we don’t rehearse together in real time we rehearse with a metronome-like track in our headphones to prepare for a recorded video project, our first ‘performance’ together since our March concert. As someone who was highly active in yo...uth orchestras and other musical activities before college, DUSO allows me to continue pursuing my passion for classical music at a high level without overly competitive pressure, alongside my academic/professional goals. I’m glad to be part of such a diverse, talented, and resilient group who focuses on delivering their best artistry in any circumstance!" Today’s young playwright, Luke, loved getting to make characters with Mantua Theater Project this summer. This Philadelphia 3rd grader’s favorite character i...n his play How Knut Got His Dream House is Knut, because Knut is a polar bear and Luke likes polar bears. Being a playwright this summer made him happy because he really enjoyed writing plays. When he is not writing plays, Luke can be found baking, reading, or playing soccer, baseball, kickball, and Minecraft.
