October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer can affect anyone, regardless of one’s gender assignment or gender identity. The American Cancer Society recommends that women ages 45-54 at average risk for breast cancer get a mammogram done every year, and at least every other year from age 55 onwards. The organization recommends that women at high risk based on certain factors should receive a mammogram and a breast MRI every year beginning at age 30. Talk to your doctor about which screening regimen is appropriate for your case. https://www.cancer.org//american-cancer-society-recommenda
September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, designated by Congress to help focus attention on the need for research and treatment of sickle cell disease. The American Red Cross has an urgent need for healthy and eligible members of Black communities across the country to support sickle cell patients through blood donation. Block the sun, not the fun! As you and your family enjoy the outdoors this summer, be sure to follow the recommended guidelines from The American Academy of Dermatology to protect from the harms of sunburn and even skin cancer.
As we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times, PerformRx has made it our mission to continue supporting our community whenever possible. We recently had the honor of making a donation to the Gift of Life Family House in Philadelphia. Courtesy of our associates, the items donated will allow for transplant families to feel at home during their stay at the Family House. We're grateful for the support of our associates and wish each of these families well during their stay!
While many businesses have re-opened across the country, COVID-19 hasn’t gone away. Wearing masks or other face coverings in settings where consistent social distancing is impossible, such as a grocery store or a crowded bike path, can help reduce the chance of another COVID-19 outbreak. Your mask protects others, and others’ masks protect you. Learn more from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention here: bit.ly/34A5oRz
"May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right." - Peter Marshall. From all of us at PerformRx, we wish you a happy and healthy Independence Day!
Today we at PerformRx recognize Juneteenth, an important day in our shared history as Americans. What is Juneteenth? On June 19, 1865 more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation Gen. Gordon Granger arrived with Union soldiers in Galveston, Texas, and announced to enslaved Africans Americans the Civil War had ended and they were free. It is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Th...e holiday gets its name from the combination of June and Nineteenth. It is also known as Emancipation Day, Juneteenth Independence Day and Black Independence Day. Juneteenth celebrations take place all across the country in honor of this important date and we invite you to learn more by exploring available historical and online resources. https://nmaahc.si.edu/blog-post/celebrating-juneteenth See more
On behalf of PerformRx, we would like to send a heartfelt congratulations to John Butts who was recently announced as the winner of the 'Most Dollars Raises Ambassador' contest for the Action Wellness PHL Dining Out For Life virtual fundraiser. John, Director of Market Development & Public Relations, is an active member of the Action Wellness Board of Directors and advocates for the organization on many levels. We admire the dedication that John has for volunteerism, both within and outside of our organization. Congratulations, John!
Care is the heart of our work here at PerformRx, and that is proudly demonstrated through our longstanding partnership with Mercy Neighborhood Ministries of Philadelphia, Inc. (MNM). As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the seniors participating in MNM's Adult Day Program were unable to receive the meals they regularly have onsite. Our President, Mesfin Tegenu, and other members of our leadership team put together a generous donation for MNM that was used to provide multiple meals for over 30 seniors. We're proud to have played a small role in helping our community navigate through these difficult times.
