"Bed Bug Awareness Week" is coming to an end. But the information is endless on these elusive creatures. One way to help prevent exposure and potential infestations of Bed Bugs is to be able to recognize Bed Bugs & distinguish them from other pests. There are a few look-alikes out there that may be mistaken for Bed Bugs if you don't know what you are looking for. "Google" is always a great tool to help you identify the Bed Bug correctly. You can always put one in a baggy and... call Peters Pest Control LLC 717-226-0832. We would be glad to help you confirm the bug. A big look-alike that even stumps us is the Bat Bug. These bugs feed primarily on the blood of bats but, will feed on humans ONLY if there are no bats around. The only way you can tell these two bugs apart is by the fine hairs on the upper covering of their thorax. We can see this visual difference only through our powerful microscope. How To Identification A Bed Bug? Common characteristics of Bed Bug nymphs (young bed bugs) include: - Less than than 5 mm in length - They are whitish-yellow and/or clear-colored - Invisible without a microscope or magnifying glass. The nymphs are easier to see if they have just feed when the blood fills their abdomen, giving it a reddish brown color. Adult Bed Bugs are typically far easier to spot than nymphs. Identifiable characteristics of most adult Bed Bugs include: - Oval-shaped body - Apple seed in size - A body that is fairly flat unless recently fed and inflated reddish-brown to light-brown or tan color of shell, depending on how recently it fed - Length of 5-7 millimeters (mm)

Peters Pest Control LLC embraces "Bed Bug Awareness Week". How do I know I have Bed Bugs? Although bed bugs can dine on any warm-blooded animal, they primarily dine on humans. Bed bugs do not transmit diseases, but their bites can become red, itchy welts. Bed bugs can bite anywhere on the body where there is skin. Typically, bites tend to occur on areas exposed during sleeping like: neck, face, hands, shoulders, arms... and legs. Let me share a true story about my experience with bites...Because we are exposed to many critters due to our job, I had thought that Bed Bugs might have hitched a ride home. I had bites that were red, itchy and welts all over my legs. I began to search our bed and of course called in the professional "Sam The Bug Man" to be sure there were none. Nothing was found. After a few days I have realized they were Mosquito bites that I got when I sat out at the pond in the evening. So just because you have bites, doesn't mean you have "the bug".
