Happy birthday to our three-banded armadillo, Camilla, who turned 24 this week! She's now one of the oldest three-banded armadillos in any of The Association of Zoos and Aquariums institutions, but she's showing no signs of slowing down!

Happy 6th birthday to our cheetah sisters Amani & Kalima! Fun fact: one of the adaptations that allows cheetahs to be the fastest mammals on land are their semi-retractable claws. Their claws allow them to get great traction as they reach speeds of up to 70 miles per hour!

VERY EXICTING NEWS TO SHARE Our baby flamingo is back on exhibit! In August, our animal team noticed Flaca (yes, it's a girl!) was having trouble standing and using her left leg. So our team intervened, took to her to the animal hospital and went to work on a plan to get her back on her own two feet. Watch her journey, and learn how our quick-thinking vets and animal staff helped her regain her strength and reunite with her flock.

Veterinarian Dr. Tim Georoff says he fell in love with snow leopards when he was in second grade. Now, he's the veterinary advisor for the snow leopard Species Survival Plan & has studied them in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. Happy #InternationalSnowLeopardDay! Philadelphia Zoo has been supporting snow leopard conservation for nearly two decades. We partner with Snow Leopard Trust and Panthera to ensure the survival of this species through research and community-based conservation efforts alongside the people who share their mountain environment. One of our favorite snow leopard facts is that they have extra-large front paws that are about two to three times wider than an average hand. These giant paws help keep them from sinking into the snow!
