Today, December 1st, is World AIDS Day another reminder that the fight to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic continues. We have lost too many lives to this terrible disease, and many more of us are still living with the virus. Today, we remember those we have lost over the years, and we give thanks for those long-term survivors who are still with us. PGMC was founded in 1981 - the same year that the first cases of HIV began to appear. Over the years, PGMC and our sibling choruses ...across the country have used our music to both comfort our community during times of loss and to raise our voices in support of the LGBTQ community and equal rights. We continue to sing loudly and proudly for both of those reasons. Today is also Giving Tuesday and we invite you to consider a gift to PGMC today in honor of a long-term survivor of HIV/AIDS, or in memory of someone who has died. Your gift to PGMC in honor/memory of a loved one will support our ongoing work to foster acceptance through music and to be a chorus that inspires change. To make a donation, please go to: https://secure.givelively.org//philad/for-the-love-of-pgmc and find the Dedicate this Gift button. Thank you!

On this Giving Tuesday, we invite you to support PGMC and our Youth Outreach program to Philadelphia-area students. In a typical season, members of the chorus travel to local high schools and colleges to perform and share a message of tolerance and acceptance. Since 2014, PGMC has reached over 13,725 students at 46 local high schools & colleges, and provided 2,175 free tickets for shows. But, of course, things are anything but typical these days due to COVID-19. So, we’ve ad...justed our Youth Outreach program this year to safely continue to serve students during the pandemic. PGMC has introduced a new virtual on-line story-telling program, "Outside Voices," for students at three partner schools, and has created an outreach video, When I Knew, which shares through music and members' stories when they knew they were different. All with a message of hope and acceptance. With your help, we will continue to reach the next generation with our music and message of hope and acceptance. This past Wednesday, in recognition of Trans Awareness Week, PGMC members reflected upon the lives of 36 trans Americans whose lives were lost this year, reading their names and words from their loved ones in memory of them, and holding a moment of silence in remembrance. Today, many of our members will be attending a performance by our siblings in song from across the country for a concert of hope and resilience, featuring the THEM Youth Ensemble in Arizona, shOUT: Minnesota's Trans and Gender Diverse Voices, Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, Phoenix: Colorado's Trans Community Choir, Spectrum Singers (Spokane, WA), the choirs of Transpose PDX (Portland, OR), and other community artists!

Nothing can break us, no one can make us give our rights away... PGMC is back for our 39th season and we thought it would be fitting to kick things off with a little inspiration to go out and vote. ;) Tomorrow, join the fray at the Pride at the Polls event at City Hall or vote how ever you feel most comfortable. Either way, get out there and SEIZE THE DAY! (Event details: https://fb.me/e/cLOVn03ER)

Sadly, GLAAD reports that 48% of LGBTQ students have experienced cyberbullying. And in this increasingly remote world it's as important as ever to put a stop to it -- and all forms of LGBTQ youth bullying. Today, on #SpiritDay, PGMC wears purple to say enough is enough. Today we take the pledge and you can too: https://www.glaad.org/spiritday.

Tomorrow is #SpiritDay - a day to collectively stand up against the bullying of our LGBTQ youth. Show your solidarity and help raise awareness of this important day by wearing purple tomorrow. Yesterday, members of PGMC participated in the 10th annual Philly Trans March to demand more protection under the law for trans people, and to end the murder of black and brown trans women. "It was a cathartic event," says Derek Jones, PGMCs Chair of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Now, more than ever, we need to stand up with our trans and non-binary family - we were proud to have some our members marching.

Today and tomorrow, in celebration of National Coming out day, let’s show how big our collective family is! Tag your friends and share your best pal photos. Because supportive friends ARE family and PGMC champions extended families everywhere!

We write today in response to concerns raised at the Town Hall meeting hosted on Sunday, June 28 by members of the Philadelphia Black Queer and Burlesque Performers network. We first want to thank them for including PGMC in the conversation and bringing the concerns, outlined in the anonymous letter shared at that time, to our attention. PGMC regrets that events and actions taken by the chorus have disenfranchised our own members as well as the community. Our commitment to Di...Continue reading
