Purposeful and intentional breathing can increase physical performance, promote focus, increase mental performance and shorten recovery time. Join us for an open discussion on the mechanics of the breathing muscles, effective techniques for efficient breathing, and self care and Q&A for the hard working muscles. Thursday June 11th, 6pm. Sign up here!
Most people know that the lungs allow us to breathe, but don’t usually think about the muscles that allow the lungs to function. The diaphragm is the muscle that allows for inhalation, and the abdominal muscles primarily allow us to exhale. Here are some self-care exercises for the respiratory muscles that can be added to your workout routine to create space in the thoracic cavity, relax the abdomen and diaphragm, and increase effectiveness of each breath we take!
As athletes, the importance of breathing is often overlooked. After all, everyone breathes all day every day, so why think about it? This article will explore some breathing techniques to help elevate performance and discuss the benefits that one can obtain by using those techniques. Take a deep breath and read on!
Discussion: a look into your sole! Whether you’re hitting the pavement for a long training run or just bouncing around the home in your flip-flops, spring activities can be hard on your feet. Despite their importance, the feet are one of the most overlooked and ignored parts of the human body that many take for granted. A self-awareness of our body, correction in posture, attention to possible problems and a more informed knowledge of the feet can aid in injury prevention and general well-being. Join us for an open discussion about structure, movement, self care and foot injuries, with answers to your individual questions.
Lack of flexibility and strength in the feet can cause muscular tightness, weak or arthritic joints, or improper distribution of kinetic force throughout the body. This may lead to ankle, knee, hip, back, or other injuries throughout the entire kinetic chain of the body. Good news! Performing daily stretching and strengthening exercises will help decrease joint or tendon inflammation, reduce the occurrence of injuries, and decrease recovery time after workouts.
