Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and the need to follow various health and safety guidelines set forth by governmental agencies the cumulative scholarshi...p announcement is being announced virtually this year. Graduating seniors representing all 17 Archdiocesan high schools from throughout the five-county region came together virtually in a short video to unveil the cumulative scholarship dollars earned by the #Classof2020. For the third consecutive year, the total broke previous records. This year’s total is $412,139,607.00. Sister Maureen Lawrence McDermott, I.H.M., Ph.D., Chief Academic Officer and Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Office of Catholic Education kicks-off the video with a message to students. Archbishop Nelson Perez concludes the announcement with a congratulatory message to the Class of 2020. In addition to revealing a piece of the total scholarship dollars earned or sharing a short phrase, each student shared the college or university they are attending in the fall. That list includes institutions such as Saint Joseph's University; Duquesne University; University of Rochester; East Stroudsburg University; Cabrini University; Immaculata University; University of Pittsburgh; Penn State Schreyer Honors College; Temple University; Drexel University; Delaware County Community College; University of Notre Dame; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Widener University; Ursinus College; and Penn State. One of the many clubs SNG students can participate in is our Investment Challenge Club. This club was created in partnership with Saint Joseph's University. ...Students in this club participated in a weekly afterschool business class led by SJU business students. Our students were not only taught the principles of investing but were also able to buy mock-stocks from publicly-traded companies on the NY Stock Exchange. At the end of the year, the best teams would have been selected to compete against other high schools and the three top teams would have received money prizes. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was unable to happen. Congrats to our students who did participate in this afterschool enrichment program!
