Thank you to César Andreu Iglesias Community Garden for writing this open letter regarding the Land Bank. Since the Land Bank came into existent we have heard story after story of how the Land Bank has helped developers rather than communities. The Land Bank says its intentions are to help communities plan and turn vacant lots into gardens. It's about time they step up for the communities in Philly who have put the effort and time to transform and maintain vacant lots into thriving community gardens. We fully support César Andreu Iglesias Community Garden in their demands!!!

It’s about that time of the year when we start to winterize our garden beds. Using salt hay or salt marsh hay can make a great winter mulch! It resists rotting, doesn’t smother current plants you might have in your beds, and it’s not weedy. Another good option can be spreading shredded leaves. Our volunteers are the best!! Thank you for coming out regardless of the wet weather and kicking ass. In a true team effort we resalvaged a dozen raised beds, a few blocks from the Peace Park, before the garden site turns into a new construction housing site. On Sunday we made it out to the beautiful @sunflowerphilly for their biweekly @trashclub !! The trash club involves volunteers coming together to pick up trash in different sections surrounding the park in North Philly The atmosphere was energizing and volunteers stuck around for food and beer afterwards to celebrate a successful day! Two weeks ago we facilitated the first garden design meeting between Germantown neighbors who’re interested in starting a community garden on these two vacant lots!
