Anthony visited Saint Joseph's University last week! He might not be the best student considering he was more interested in eating his school books than learning from them, but he sure made a lot of friends!

We are so excited to formally announce a new monthly tradition at the PGP; get ready for the All Abilities Ramble (puns 2020). This is a space for folx with disabilities, along with their friends and family members, to come together, spend time with the goats, and foster a community that supports each other. Goats for the Greater Good!

Goat of the Week: Introducing... (-) Born in Philadelphia to a working class family, Raymond graduated from Central High School. He went on to be the first Black graduate of Wharton School of Business at UPENN. He then went to Harvard and became a lawyer. ... Throughout his time as a lawyer, Raymond and his wife, Sadie, (the first Black woman to earn a law degree from Penn) established one of the city’s most successful law firms, and sought to represent Black people in civil rights cases and high profile wrongful arrests. He later went on to have a long political career that started with the Republican Party and ended up serving what would become a Democratic ticket. This eventually led to his appointment as the first ever Black judge in the Court of Common Pleas. This court is where the most controversial and serious cases are argued. While serving as a judge, Alexander was shocked by the high number of Black defendants and created a rehabilitative justice program for first offenders. Instead of going to jail, first offenders were taken in by members of local churches, mosques, and synagogues in their community and given a second chance to correct their behavior by learning new skills and supporting themselves and their neighbors. Although he was old fashioned in some ways (didn’t support young protesters or corporate divestment from the NAACP), Raymond Pace Alexander was a pioneer of justice and civil liberty who fought strategically to empower the Black community of Philadelphia to advocate for and preside over themselves, regardless of party lines. #blackhistory #vote #blacklivesmatter Photo credit to @lovemedophoto

*RESCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY NOVEMBER 8TH DUE TO RAIN* This Sunday, November 1st we have a very special guest performing at our VERY LAST Sunday Funday of the season sponsored by the @freelibrary’s Sundays on Stage program and the PCI Board of Managers. Nigerian-American & Germantown resident singer songwriter @joyikemusic will be joining us to perform two 45 minute shows - one show at 2:30pm and one show at 3:30pm. Bring a chair or blanket for the grass. Joy Ike paints with a ...broad palette that defies easy categorization. A write-up on NPR's All Things Considered says "The depth of subjects she tackles in her poetic lyrics are perfectly complemented by a unique blend of neo-soul, with just the right dash of pop...a truly compelling act to watch in person, with the ability to create an intimate setting in locations big and small." She will be performing as a duo this Sunday with her drummer (and sister), Peace Ike. Additionally throughout our normal Sunday Funday 2-5pm window there will be pumpkin painting (free pumpkins provided!), candy for trick or treaters, a beekeeper's tour, a farm tour, goats strolling, a mask-arade (wear your costumes!), and a nature treasure hunt. Please join us for this very fun event! Everything is FREE and open to the public. As always please wear masks and socially distance. (Rain date November 8th)

PGP believes that Black Lives Matter. If anyone in our BIPOC family wants to hang out in nature with the goats just let us know and we’ll make it happen. White allies, please give black folx in our community the space they need. Take time to listen, and seek advice from other allies. #blacklivesmatter

Our goats are off living their best lives on a grazing site in Elkins Park this week! This sustainable grazing job was requested by @friendsofhighschoolpark, a community group dedicated to the ecological restoration of High School Park since 1995. To date, FHSP has transformed 11+ acres into a green space and includes several trails. Fun Facts- This grazing site required:... 28 Cattle panels 497 Zip ties 100+ T-posts ...all set up by our fabulous Goat Whisperer Vita! The goats will be at High School Park until this Friday October 30th, so go check it out and watch them hard at work doing their natural landscaping! Tag us so we can repost. Also check out Friends of High School Park for TONS of great photos and videos and Grid Magazine for a video with Ray yesterday! : @marg127 #sustainablegrazing #sustainable #grazing #goats #goatsofinstagram #landscaping #naturallandscaping See more
