The Philadelphia Police Foundation's President is smart, tough and driven. Say hello to Maureen Rush who broke her hand a couple weeks ago. She was one of the first 100 female police officers in the history of Philly PD and is now VP for Public Safety at Penn. Fractured hand or not, she was doing her 5 miles. She got on her bike yesterday for Cpl. O'Connor and all the men and women of law enforcement. Thank you for your leadership Moe!
Members of the O'Connor Family and the Philadelphia Police Family met this morning for a small (limited size due to COVID protocols) ceremonial run along the actual Market Street 'Run for Blue' race course. A brief presentation to Terri O'Connor and the family followed on behalf of the Phila Police Foundation. It was a beautiful tribute to Corporal Jimmy. Most importantly it brought much love and smiles in a year when we need all the love and smiles we can gather. We are sending this inspiration to all those completing their 5 miles on this final weekend of the Virtual Run for Blue in honor of #8162. The terrific photos are courtesy off Joe Kaczmarek.
Some more pictures of folks who already did their 5 mile Run for Blue mission! Look forward to seeing many more this weekend. And remember -- We will be together on Market Street in 2021!
Thank you to this incredibly thoughtful group of runners who live near Corporal O'Connor's family in NE Philadelphia. They started their 5 mile journey at 5:40 a.m. which was the approx time of the Corporal's passing on March 13. This is a beautiful honor. Thank you.
Another unique benefit of the Run for Blue being virtual -- dogs are welcomed. For insurance purposes there are no pets allowed when we are on Market Street. However, with 2020 being virtual, we are seeing lots of dogs getting involved -- including the Philly Police K9 crew!
Some additional photos of Run for Blue participants. We appreciate all of you. Thank you!
While we all prefer to be in person and a Virtual Run/Walk is not ideal it does add one pretty cool element. It allows direct participation from across the country. I have to say -- we never envisioned the Golden Gate Bridge being a backdrop for the Run for Blue ...but hey...2020 I guess! This is John, retired Chief of Brigantine Police and his daughter Brianna (in SF). Thank you both and to all those participating from many places outside Greater Philly!
Here are some additional Run for Blue photos that were submitted over the weekend. Great job by all!! Keep sending to [email protected] if you'd like. We will try to post as many as we can over the next 7-10 days.
We have received some amazing photos from those who have completed their 5 mile Run for Blue in memory of Cpl. O'Connor. We will be posting pics all week but I wanted to start the week with this picture and message from Chris Konen. Thank you Chris! "It was my honor and pleasure to complete the Run for Blue in memory of Cpl. O’Connor. I completed my five mile walk in North Wildwood on the seawall and the boardwalk. I plotted out my course to end at his in-memoriam bench at 17 Avenue. Rest in peace, Cpl. O’Connor. And may his family find some solace that there are many of us out there thinking of them. This is but one small thing that I can do to help them"
Team Andy Chan, led by Andy's amazing wife Teng, gathered at the Art Museum steps this morning prior to doing their 5 mile Run for Blue in honor of Cpl. Jimmy. This amazing photo is courtesy of the great Joe Kaczmarek. God Bless Andy and thank you to the entire Team for supporting the Phila Police Foundation. #RunForBlue #VirtualMarketStreetRun.
Congratulations to our 'unofficial' first runner to complete the 2020 Virtual Market Street Run for Blue in memory of Cpl Jimmy O'Connor: Officer Brett Greaves with K9 Onyx of Radnor Police! We say 'unofficial' because Brett was simply the first one to send us a post-run picture. Thank you Officer Greaves for supporting your colleagues at Philly PD and good luck to everyone running/walking/jogging this weekend!

It is go time! Friday Oct. 16 opens a 10-day window to complete the 5-mile 2020 Virtual Market Street Run for Blue in memory of Cpl. Jimmy O'Connor. And there is only one way to officially kick things off. Please welcome our Dear Friend, Roland Scarinci -- a 97 year old World War II Veteran and a lifelong Philadelphian. Runners, walkers, joggers and everyone participating -- Thank You and Good Luck!! #RunForBlue #MarketStreetRun
