Philadelphia Millennial Advisory Committee 20.01.2021

We're continuing the week with our final MAC Member Spotlight of the month! Today, meet our new Chair Julian Domanico. Then keep following along here + on twitter (@PHLMillennial) for all the latest from us. _________________________... Preferred Pronouns * he/him/his MAC Role / Title * Chair of the Millennial Advisory Committee (MAC) Q: Where do you live in Philadelphia? * A: Gayborhood/ Midtown Villiage Q: Why did you join MAC? * A: I joined MAC in 2017 because I felt unheard and anxious about how life was changing around me. I was hunting for a combination of purpose and impact. Looking back 4 years later, I remain on MAC. I've seen the toll we've paid as a community, particularly BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and immigrant communities, when issues are not addressed thoughtfully, remembering both one another's humanity and need for access to economic prosperity. I want to continue to work to change that. Q: What do you hope to accomplish in 2021 with/through MAC? * A: In 2021, I will steward MAC's immense talent and assets to be more community-focused and visible in Philadelphia. During this season of unrest, the millennial voice, in particular, is an important barometer for the health of communities. We have begun to settle down, build roots, and juggle the needs of today with the wants of tomorrow. MAC has helped me learn that there is no magic wand or person that can fix, alone, the ills affecting us. I challenge millennial Philadelphians to find their cause. Practice lifting your voices to speak out. Lean into your tribe of agitators and collaborators. It will be those connections that buoy your passion projects and feed your need for purpose. Above all, continue looking for gaps in society over the next four years; they’ll appear because they've never left. Then, use what is uniquely your own to leave a positive mark that both innovates and creates opportunities for others. In this work, I am keenly aware that as millennials, we remain the future leaders -- our seats are not solidified. However, we are also the first guinea pigs of 21st-century living and all that that entails. I encourage you, MAC members, and those in the community who interact with us to bring your full selves, in respectful and constructive ways, to our work and table in 2021. Q: What restaurant are you currently ordering from? * A: Rosario's Pizzeria & Restaurant (@rosariospizzeria_philly)
