NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING- NO ALCOHOL SALES IN PA HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- In an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine announced a series of orders and advisories during a news conference Monday afternoon. Levine urged all Pennsylvanians to avoid leaving their homes, unless it is absolutely necessary.... "Please stay at home," she said. The guidance is an advisory, not a shutdown order, officials said. Levine also issued an order to suspend alcohol sales at all bars and restaurants - for one night only - beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The order will stay in effect through 8 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. The order comes as 4,762 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Monday in addition to the 7,075 cases reported Sunday for a two-day total of 11,837. The statewide total is now 314,401. There are 3,379 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, officials said. Of that number, 775 patients are in the intensive care unit and 371 patients are on a ventilator. "This week's data, in terms of hospitalization increase, an increase in the use of ventilators, case increase and percent positivity are worrisome," Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said.

Shortly after 10AM, the department and Trappe Fire Company No. 1 EMS of Phoenixville were dispatched to Reeves Park for rescue of a child stuck in a swing. Ladd...er 65, Engine 65-1 and MICU 85-2 responded on the assignment. Firefighters arrived and unbolted and removed the swing from the set so that the child could lay down while crews worked on removal. This also allowed a more stable working position as the swing was not suspended in air. The child was not in pain or distress, so care was taken to attempt removal without damaging the new swing. Phoenixville Police went to Phoenixville Hospital - Tower Health to get a lubricant to aid with removal. Ultrasound gel was used to aid in removal of the child. The removal process took about 30 minutes. Thank you all for the Teamwork!

I know there have been a lot of questions regarding Halloween. Here are a couple of highlights from my official Halloween Guidance message. To read the full mes...sage, please visit the Borough of Phoenixville website. For your safety and that of your neighbors, we are Not Recommending trick or treating take place this year and we will not issue our traditional guidance on trick or treating hours. However, as a community, we have some incredible alternatives which can make this holiday feel festive and keep us connected. These include a virtual costume contest, virtual coloring contest, and a Spookily Distant Drive-Thru Halloween Display on October 31st. Check out InThisTogetherPXV.com/Halloween for more details. In general, there are no specific ordinances within the Borough of Phoenixville that pertain directly to Halloween. Additionally, Halloween is not an Official or Borough-Sponsored event. We do encourage residents to assess all aspects, which may impact their own, their family’s or neighbor’s health and safety while participating in any activity. Each family should make a decision that is appropriate for their own child, while keeping their child’s and their neighbor’s health and safety at the forefront of their decision making. As a community, we only ask that those who wish to participate in any Halloween activities do so respectfully and safely, conscious of our ongoing health emergency, while also being respectful to those who do not wish to participate. Thank you, for the incredible work you are doing to keep Phoenixville Safe and Healthy! Around 2pm, police responded to a report of a red chicken trespassing in the backyards of the 700 block of Main Street. The chicken fled the scene but was no match for the speed and agility of our finest officer, Sergeant Lance Frost. The frightened residents cried tears of joy knowing that they could sleep safe in their homes tonight free from the terror of the red chickens. The chicken is currently being housed at Phoenixville's chicken prison/halfway house and will be released upon bond being posted. This afternoon, a group of teenagers decided to cool off at the Schuylkill River. Norfolk Southern Railroad trestles are very active in our area and a train, unlike an automobile, needs hundreds of yards or more to stop completely. In addition, jumping from them is dangerous and illegal. Boats and jet skis may not see you and the water may not be deep enough. A young woman was injured today after her head hit a rock rendering her unconscious. She did not remember if she ju...mped from the trestle or a nearby rope swing. Numerous teens were spotted on the trestle and ran when law enforcement approached. Please do not go on the trestle. Being arrested is the least of your worries! Waking up in a trauma center or worse is the real concen! Phoenixville Police, Phoenixville Fire Dept’s Water Resuce Units & our Ambulance crews responded. The teen was transported via the river to a waiting ambulance downstream. She was taken to Paoli Trama Center due to a head injury. Our youth may think they are invincible but older folks know that is simply not the case. Parents, please take a moment and have a conversation with your teenagers about the dangers of this activity. Our kids are too important in our lives! See more

Soliciting Permits have been suspended until the declared COVID-19 emergency is lifted. There are exemptions for a few reasons below. If someone is violating our soliciting rules, please call the police first so we can handle it promptly. You can always call your elected officials afterward but calling us first increases our chances of talking to the individuals before they leave the area.
