Piazza Talarico and Papa Joe's Wine Cellar 15.11.2020

It seems to be getting a little more hazardous to go out again. Although we believe our small size and rigorous compliance with social distancing, masks, and hygiene make Piazza Talarico among the safest places to get out, we understand why so many are hesitant to venture out into public. For that reason, we are still offering pizza and pasta kits, an abundant selection of take-out entrees, appetizers, soup, salads, and of course Papa Joe’s Wines. Give us a call, we can be very accommodating to all of your needs. Whether completely prepared or about 10 minutes from completion in your kitchen, you can eat safely and eat well, whether at Piazza Talarico or in your own home.

WE LOVE PITT! And we are not giving up on this offer. After the Pitt football team beats Florida State today, come in to Piazza Talarico, say "Hail to Pitt," and get a free glass of wine. The game starts at 4:00, so the promotion will go from about 7:30 PM til we close at 10PM. We started this promotion early in the season, and will keep it going for the rest of the season. So first, watch the game and root for us to go broke giving away wine, then, if Pitt wins, the offer is good for the rest of the day. Again, come in and say "Hail to Pitt" and claim your free glass of any of Papa Joe's Wines!

We went to the Bronx and our first stop was Zero Otto Nove for lunch. This is one of our favorites in Little Italy on Arthur Ave. Their red sauce is virtually indistinguishable from ours. It’s a nice day here and great to be able to eat outside. Even better yet that EVERYONE is wearing a mask, even on the street. This is the kind of great Italian restaurants that inspired the Piazza Talarico. We wish you could all be here, but it is a great day to replicate our experien...ce yourself on our piazza right in Lawrenceville. We drove 400 miles, mostly through the night. You don’t have to! Get over there! See more

It’s November, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. With no end in sight to the Covid thing, we are planning some takeout specials for November, and some specials for the holiday. We know that Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday, but Italian-Americans, like we do with virtually everything, make a serious attempt to Italianize it. We always had Turkey (over the objections of Grandpa Frank) but we always humored him (and ourselves, to be honest) by adding one... of our macaroni dishes: usually our baked maccheroni or lasagna. Our Aunt Mary Kay (the crazy aunt, if you ask Papa Joe) always serves wedding soup as the first course at Thanksgiving; there is nothing better to go with a turkey dinner. Papa Joe always thought hers was the best, but don’t let her know he admitted that. If you don’t want to be serving two essentially full meals for thanksgiving dinner, wedding soup is the perfect complement. The traditional Italians always eat in courses, although many of us just put everything out together and overfill our dish with a little of everything. What better addition could there be to the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings than lasagna, baked maccheroni, rigatoni or spaghetti with grandma’s sauce, or even a margherita pizza? For November, in addition to our usual eat-in specials, we will be offering all of the above specialties. In addition, we will be offering our Pittsburgh box, featuring some of our own specialties, along with those of some of our friends who have worked with us and supplied many of our own items. The details will follow soon.
