Shout out to @pigilab007 masters student, Julia D’Souza on her publication today in Nature Scientific Reports on using ultrasound radiomics to grade liver fibrosis. She is trying to make liver biopsy obsolete! As interventional radiologists, we are always trying to find the least invasive ways to diagnose and treat disease, even if it makes some of what we do obsolete. When was the last time we used lymph angiography to diagnose cancer, or used direct puncture aortography to diagnose vascular disease? CT and MRI made those procedures obsolete. Shoutout to our PIGILab and Penn Ultrasound Lab MD/MTR graduate student, Julia D’Souza, who defended her masters in translational research thesis this week on using anti vascular ultrasound (AVUS) to improve chemotherapeutic drug delivery and kill liver cancer. Everyone agreed, her thesis and productivity were at the level of a PhD. We are so honored that she chosen @pennmedicine to continue her training in the combined IR/DR residency! She’s amazing, and we have been so fortunate to work with her these past few years.
