The fall of 2019 brought a flurry of news articles criticizing Philadelphia’s Society Hill neighborhood for blocking bike lane delineators along Spruce and Pine streets’ newly paved bike lanes. Once this issue became apparent to the residents of Society Hill along with cycling allies in neighboring areas, an organic group of supporters formed to take action. Cyclists in Philadelphia (& beyond!) deserve safe bike lanes. That means protection from cars and poorly maintained roadways. Please be aware of these train tracks on north Delaware avenue across from Best Buy in South Philadelphia. This bike lane leads cyclist across loose rock and diagonal tracks that almost run parallel with the lane. We have already seen one serious injury due to these conditions and advise caution or avoidance of the route. Avante Reynolds was killed while trying to cross #CobbsCreek Parkway "...a four-lane highway that runs alongside a public park through residential neighborhoods home to thousands of families, most of them Black. The 12-mile state road that connects Delaware County to Market Street via West Philly is one of the city’s deadliest thoroughfares. Less than a month before Reynolds died, another accident on the parkway killed two people and injured three more."...
