"Sandy"!!! She is 9 years old, but feels like she's only 2 years old! We met Sandy today in the North office because her parents moved to Pittsburgh and needed a Dermatologist in the area. Welcome! ... She will continue her current allergy vaccine from her previous Dermatologist & she received a Cytopoint injection to help her itching! We are so happy we met Sandy today!

The biggest patient of the day! "Arturo"! ONE HUNDRED NINETY FOUR (194) POUNDS! Arturo had a flare of skin infection recently and came in for his recheck today! ... It took BOTH Mary (on left) and Kaylee (on right) to hold Arturo on the table for his exam! Great news -- his skin infection is resolved! Even more, we loved visiting with him!!!

Mitch! And Mitch's tongue!!! [Rachael feeding Mitch all the "treat-ies"! ] Mitch has been through the gammit of allergy workup and therapies over the past 5+ years, some with his veterinarian and some with Dr. Sargent & Dr. Detwiler. He always looks good, but unfortunately is still itchy! ... After numerous diet trials, Mitch's owners have learned to feed him certain items and avoid others (ex: ). They notice that he gets more itchy when in the grass , but unfortunately his environmental allergen-specific immunotherapy did not resolve the itching symptom. He does best with Cytopoint injections every 4-6 weeks! Apoquel does NOT help his itching. We are going to stay on top of his inching as we navigate through the best long-term options to keep him comfortable. We truly appreciate the effort Mitch's owners have done and continue to put forth to help him!

Say HELLO to "Heidi"! She is very itchy year-round due to allergies, so bad that she wears an outfit to reduce her self trauma! Wearing clothing is actually a strategy to also reduce contact to outside allergens , which can be very helpful in reducing the cycle of self trauma. ... During her skin test today [right pic] she had MANY strong positive reactions [large red raised areas aka hives] to environmental allergens including seasonal pollens, molds, yeast (aka Malassezia) that causes skin infections, house dust mites and insects! Dr. Sargent plans to start her on allergen-specific immunotherapy to reduce her allergies long-term! We cannot wait to see her improvement, hopefully as soon as next spring/summer, but usually one year is needed to see full benefits from this therapy! Good luck Heidi!
