Part two of the Talks at the Desk video series celebrates youth ministry and mentorship in the Black Church. Black men and boys speak about their connections ...across generations. They reflect on how their faith communities and mentor relationships have guided them and nurtured their passions. A discussion guide to help individuals and congregations engage with these conversations is available at ELCA.org/ADM. ELCA African Descent Ministries celebrates Black History Month with Talks at the Desk, a four-part video series that will explore diverse expressions of the church. A new video will premiere each Wednesday in February at 7:30pm Central time. Watch them live on Facebook, stream them on YouTube or download them at ELCA.org/ADM.

A Statement from Bishop Ann on the police killing of Amir Locke. "God of mercy, our hearts are breaking over the police killing of Amir Locke. We say his name a...nd give thanks for his life. Stir up your presence in our community; comfort those who need comfort; discomfort those who need to be discomforted; draw us all into your work of justice. Amen The wounds of our community are wrenched open yet again with the killing of another Black person at the hands of a police officer. We mourn with Amir Locke’s family and his community. We pray for all reeling from this re-inflicted trauma and the layers of harm that ripple out from this moment. We pray for the activists and community leaders raising questions and seeking change. We pray for our elected leaders called to courageously work for the reformation of our law enforcement and criminal justice system. We know there is so much to do, we hear God’s call to participate in this work, and we recommit our lives to the justice God seeks." After this [Jesus] went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, Follow me. And he got up, left everything, and f...ollowed him. Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house; and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them. The Pharisees and their scribes were complaining to his disciples, saying, Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners? Jesus answered, Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance (Luke 5:27-32).
