PONY World Series

Today, the focus is on mom. The DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series wants to wish all of our baseball moms a very happy Mother's Day!

As National Volunteer Week comes to an end, the DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series would be remiss if we did not recognize Mike Ferrari, a longtime friend of the DSGPLWS. Mike served as our former Head Groundskeeper, while his wife, Patty, served as our Concessions Director. Shortly after the 2016 tournament, Mike passed away following a 15-month battle with cancer. Beginning in 2017, the DSGPLWS established the Mike Ferrari Memorial Scholarship, given annually to a recently graduated Washington County high school student who has given of themselves to the DSGPLWS. Thanks for all of your hard work, Mike. You will always be missed.

On Day 6 of National Volunteer Week, the DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series wants to recognize Bill Stough, our Director of Field Operations. Thanks for all of your hard work, Bill!

On Day 5 of National Volunteer Week, the DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series wants to recognize Ron Faust, our Secretary. Thanks for all of your hard work, Ron!

On Day 4 of National Volunteer Week, the DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series wants to recognize Nathan Voytek, World Series President & Chairman. Nathan also played in the 1989 DSGPLWS and umpired in the 2004 DSGPLWS. The John Voytek Memorial Award, given annually to Washington County's leading hitter, is named in memory of Nathan's father, a member of the 1955 DSGPLWS championship team from Washington, PA. Thanks for all of your hard work, Nathan!

On National Maple Syrup Day, the DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY World Series wants to recognize syrup's natural complement, the pancake. Specifically, Trey Pancake. Pancake played in the 2017 #DSGPLWS for Youngstown, Ohio, collecting ten hits for a .588 batting average.

On August 25, 1955, Washington, Pennsylvania won its first and only DICK'S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series title. 65 years later, we are looking back at Washington's road to victory. READ: http://bit.ly/1955PLWSChampionship

August 25, 1955--A hallowed date in these parts of the PONY Baseball world. Sixty-five years ago today, Washington, PA won its only PONY League World Series championship, battling back against Youngstown, OH, avenging its only loss of the tourney, besting the Ohioans twice to win the title. Stephen Rydzak will have a lot on the 1955 Champions later today. Stay tuned!
