Matcha is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, going back to the late 12th century when Myan Eisai returned from China with tea seeds and the knowledge of how to powder their leaves. To this day, we're still practicing tencha, which is the act of making matcha just like Eisai had, with only the simple tools of a bowl, hot water, and a bamboo whisk.
