Captains, Paddlers, Friends, Four months from today (give or take two days), is the planned Race Day for the 2021 Independence Dragon Boat Regatta. We are stil...l in the application process with the City of Philadelphia, which is essentially in the, "Hurry up and Wait" phase of operations. We have 68 teams now registered, and the tentative plan is to start practices in late June or early July pending MLK Drive's status. The city is taking advantage of the closure of MLK to repave the entire multiuse path on that side of the river (MUCH needed), as well as repaving the entire stretch of road from Falls Bridge to Sweetbriar Drive (also much needed). Until those projects are finished, the drive, and therefore our practice docks, remain closed and inaccessible unless you're prepared to park up by the Please Touch Museum or up Montgomery Drive by the fields, and take a walk down. So we will keep you posted on dates as things move along. Regarding how the IDBR will look? Next month the Dad Vail and Stotesbury Cup rowing regattas will take place as planned, but with NO spectators permitted - just athletes and coaching staff. It is absolutely TBD if the City has us follow the same rules in August. As soon as we know, I'll let you know. Until then stay safe, think Spring, and hope to have good news for you all soon.
