Congratulations to Princess Lovett, who was just named the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth of the Year for the entire state of Pennsylvania! With her peers and the help of the Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading, Princess formed the group "Girls Supporting Girls. Period," which addresses the issue of menstrual equity in her school and the community. The "Girls Supporting Girls. Period" project received significant funding from the Power of the Purse in Berks County through grants to VOICE Up, which operates the Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading as a fund of Berks County Community Foundation.

Last night, we held our virtual kickoff meeting with Power of the Purse co-chairs Vicki Ebner and Karen Baxter. At the beginning of the meeting, we heard from special guest speaker and Power of the Purse member P. Sue Perrotty, President and Owner, BAC Services LLC. Sue was also the co-chair of the recently successfully completed annual campaign for the United Way of Berks County! Throughout the 2020-2021 season of the Power of the Purse, our members will seek applications fr...om local nonprofits (we'll make an announcement when applications will be accepted), meet with applicants, evaluate the applications, and eventually award grants to the selected recipients in the spring. Since the Power of the Purse in Berks County began in 2012, this group of philanthropic women has awarded $285,903 in grants to local organizations that empower women and girls.
