Great coverage of Huntingdon Mills from Inga Saffron today. We recently nominated this complex, the former Franklin Carpet Mill, to the National Register and will be guiding this worthy project through the historic tax credit process.

Congratulations to HRI Properties on the impressive rehabilitation of the old Liberty Title & Trust Building in Philadelphia. This 1925 former bank and office building was transformed into the Aloft Philadelphia Downtown Hotel, right next door to the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This important Federal Historic Tax Credit project, for which we provided consulting services over the past few years, was recently given its final Part 3 approval by the National Park Service!

Before Congress considers eliminating the historic tax credit, they should listen to Ronald Reagan speak about its benefits in 1984:

The Federal Historic Tax Credit is in grave danger of being eliminated during upcoming tax reform. Please contact your elected officials in the House and Senate and tell them you support this critical economic development tool, which has generated billions of dollars in investment in historic buildings and has created over two million jobs in the past 30+ years. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has created this simple, easy tool to help you get in touch with your senators and representatives:

As congress begins to discuss tax reform, it's worth pointing out the benefits of the Federal Historic Tax Credit program. In 2016 alone, $6.5 billion was invested in historic rehabilitation projects under the HTC program, creating 109,000 jobs and generating $1.7 billion in federal, state and local taxes. Powers & Company is currently providing historic tax credit consulting services to every major rehabilitation project on North Broad Street in Philadelphia, totaling nearly $500 million in investment on one of the city's most prominent corridors: - The 20-story Liberty Title & Trust Building at Broad & Arch, reopening later this month as the Aloft Hotel. - The Philadelphia Inquirer Building, which is in the planning stages to become the new headquarters of the Philadelphia P...olice Department. - The iconic Divine Lorraine Hotel, now open as rental apartments. - The Metropolitan Opera House, proposed as a new Live Nation concert venue. - The Horace Trumbauer-designed North Broad Street Station at Broad & Huntington, which is being renovated for much needed low-income housing, - The long vacant Beury Building at Broad & Erie, currently under design as new low-income and market rate housing. Like the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia says, North Broad truly is rising!

The rehabilitation of the landmark Divine Lorraine Hotel, now nearing completion, was recently featured on the National Trust's website. We've been working with the owner EBRM for the last two years, providing consulting on the Federal Historic Tax Credit approval process. The building is looking better than it has in a century!
