Change your clock, test your smoke alarms! Some of today’s newer smoke alarms don’t need the batteries to be replaced annually, but ALL smoke alarms need to be working. When you turn back your clock this Sunday (Nov. 1), test your smoke alarms!

The Plumstead Township Police Department's Admin Staff are ready to celebrate Halloween! Are you? Here are some tips on how to celebrate safely! Du...e to COVID-19: DO NOT go into houses. Please wear a Covid Mask with your costume. Travel in small groups this year. Do your best to social distance while you are trick or treating. When your Trick or Treater has selected their costume: Make sure that the costume fits well & is not a trip hazard. Avoid loose fitting masks / apply makeup instead. For safety - use reflective tape on costumes. Any costume accessories such as, swords & knives should be soft & flexible. If you are expecting Trick or Treaters: Make sure your home is well lit. Remove any/all obstacles from your lawn, driveway, steps or porches. Keep any lit candles away from doorsteps, landings or anywhere a costume may come into contact with the flame. Make sure that you have plenty of candy When Trick or Treating: Travel in groups, accompanied by an adult if possible. Always carry a flashlight / glow-stick. Set a curfew for your children. Walk don’t run! Respect people’s property by staying on the sidewalks, don’t walk across lawns. Don’t stop at dark houses. Don’t go in any backyards. Be aware of your surroundings & always look both ways before crossing the street. Visit only familiar neighborhoods & homes. Don’t enter any house unless you know the people. Never accept rides from strangers. Never eat candy until it’s inspected (once you get home). Have Fun! Always report anything suspicious to an adult right away or to the Plumstead Police Department Non-emergency number (215) 766-8741 or 9-1-1.

As the temperature drops outside, wood and pellet stoves may be fired up inside the home. What you may not realize is that heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fires during the winter months. #FirePreventionMonth #PVFC2420

When the weather turns cold, it can bring a chill into our homes. Portable space heaters have become a popular way to supplement central heating or heat one room. If you plan to use portable electric space heaters, make sure to follow these tips and recommendations below! #PVFC2420 #FirePreventionMonth

Last night for drill members of Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire Company practiced handling horses in the event that a local barn would have a fire. A big thank you to Jacob Yerkes and Ally Butterworth for helping with training and giving direction. Special thanks to Charity Paashaus of www.paashausperformancehorses.com for providing the horses for the firefighters. Photo credit goes out to Mary Kaye Yerkes.

The Officers and Members of Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire Company would like to congratulate Matt Kotarski as our recipient of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Emergency Service Award at the award night Sunday October 25th. This event is normally hosted at Spring Mill Manor, however due to COVID-19, this year’s event was held on Zoom with all the awardees. PVFC celebrated Matt’s accomplishments by hosting a dinner last night with 14 members and family in attendance at the fire house. Matt is a tremendous asset to not only the fire company, but the community. Congratulations Matt and keep up the great work!

Candles may be pretty to look at but they are a cause of home fires and home fire deaths. Remember, a candle is an open flame, which means that it can easily ignite anything that can burn. #PVFC2420 #FirePreventionMonth

Often called the invisible killer, carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas created when fuels (such as gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil, and methane) burn incompletely. In the home, heating and cooking equipment that burn fuel can be sources of carbon monoxide. #FirePreventionMonth #PVFC2420

DID YOU KNOW? Heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fires during the winter months. Space heaters are the type of equipment most often involved in home heating equipment fires.... All heaters need space. Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from heating equipment. Have a 3-foot kid-free zone around open fires and space heaters. Purchase and use only portable space heaters listed by a qualified testing laboratory. Have a qualified professional install heating equipment. Maintain heating equipment and chimneys by having them cleaned and inspected by a qualified professional at least once a year. #FirePreventionMonth #PVFC2420

Today's fire prevention message: Use a timer to remind you that you're cooking! Unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires in the kitchen. #FirePreventionMonth #PVFC2420
