Replaced a leaking heat exchanger today, leak caused by external corrosion from chlorine fumes,,,heater was located inside a shed, exhaust was properly vented to the outside, and chlorine tablets were also stored there,,,even tho the container was kept closed, corrosive chlorine fumes still leaked out,,this took over 7 yrs to fail, but it finally did,,,inspection of the heat exchanger revealed no damage from water chemistry or freezing all damage was from external corrosion that finally developed a number of pinholes in the exchanger,,,,
