Join us tomorrow at 7PM for our virtual First Friday Poetry reading for May. As with our other zoom-based readings, the open mic will begin at 7PM followed by our featured reader, Dorothy Trench Bonett. If you wish to read during the open mic, simply place your name in the chat when you login. We ask that you limit the open mic reading to one poem. Our featured reader this month is Dorothy Trench Bonett. Dorothy studied Chinese at Yale and has taught Chinese at Hood College ...and Mount Saint Mary's University. She has translated Alexandre Dumas (Charles VII at the Homes of His Great Vassals, Noble Press,1991) and has won awards for her original poetry. She received an Honorable Mention for the Der Hovanessian Prize for a translation of Xu Zhimo, whose poetry she began translating for Martin Malone's Sociology class at Mount Saint Mary's. Broad Sea and Empty Sky: China's Greatest Modern Poet Xu Zhimo, which was published in February 2021, was the number one book in Chinese poetry translation on Amazon when it came out. Ms. Trench Bonett has presented Xu's poetry at ALTA (the American Literary Translator's Association) and for the 6th Annual Xu Zhimo Poetry and Arts Festival at King's College Cambridge. She is also the author of Repairing the Sky, a book of translations of Chinese myths and legends. Please join us tomorrow for what should be a wonderful reading.
