******Stimulus Prepaid Debt Cards Confused with Junk Mail, Thrown Away Two months after the CARES Act was signed into law, an estimated 10 million U.S. households have not received their Economic Impact Payments (EIP). The Treasury Department announced that prepaid debit cards are being mailed to individuals who have not provided their banking information to the IRS, such as low-income households without bank accounts or taxpayers who don’t typically receive tax refunds v...ia direct deposit. According to the Treasury Department, the debit cards will be mailed to four million taxpayers instead of a paper check or a direct deposit. The cards can be used to make purchases at any store where Visa cards are accepted, transfer funds to personal back accounts without any fees, or to get cash from an ATM. The Social Security Administration published guidance for recipients to help them make sure that they get their payments. Many people have reported mistaking the debit cards for junk mail and throwing them away. If you residents are expecting an EIP, tell them to look for a plain white envelope from Money Network Cardholder Services. The debit card inside will be a Visa and says MetaBank. If thrown away by mistake or if an individual receives a card with a misprinted name, taxpayers can contact the IRS at 1-800-919-9835 to get a free replacement card. The $7.50 processing fee will be waived for the first re-issuance of an EPI debit card. To block unauthorized transactions, individuals may call 1-800-240-8100 or visit EIPCard.com to report it. A new card will ship 7-10 business days after the replacement is requested.
