Belle Vernon Area Team (Parents, Adults, Students, Community Leaders and Members, Law Enforcement Officers, School District Officials and Staff, and Anyone/Ever...yone Else) It’s time that WE ALL recognize that WE have a serious problem in our community regarding alcohol and drug use by our most valuable resource our children and students. While none of us, including me, are (were) perfect, WE ALL should be striving to be responsible adults, parents, mentors, and role models (i.e. leaders by example). WE must take action NOW. before another person takes the path to addiction and/or before someone is killed. With graduation and parties right around the corner, the risk and probability of underage drinking and illegal drug use increases significantly, as it always has (nothing new). None of us, not for one second, should assume that any of our own children is exempt from peer pressure, wanting to fit in, etc However, as responsible adults and law abiding citizens, it is very important that WE ALL take ownership and embrace responsibility NOW. This is ALL of OUR problem, and WE will only win through education, active involvement and dialogue with our kids, teamwork, and God’s intervention and continued blessings. In the coming days, PLEASE spend some extra time with your children, and all children for that matter, and remind them of the dangers of alcohol and drug use, and that you are always only a phone call away (no questions asked). Most importantly, PLEASE remind them that you LOVE them. If they do not want to call you, call me (cell phone 724-984-4603). I promise to do whatever it takes to keep them out of harm’s way and get them home safely (again, no questions asked). The fun and games must end. This isn’t a matter of who can outsmart or outwit who and/or who has the stronger relationships. The lives and futures of children and young adults are at stake. God Bless Us All. #HML
